the one I put in the ground was 2'. That is the extra. I got the auger that is on a trailer. It has a counter balance motor. I got it at Home Depot in Denham Springs. I only needed it for 4 hours for about 300+ linear feet of holes.

What did you put on the bottom of the sleeve? Like to keep concrete and shite from getting in it?

Sleeve first, concrete second. The post will stay in there 99% of the time. When you do take it out, it will just be temporary and not much if anything will get in it.
just compacted ground underneath sleeve. I could do concrete but when it rains, it would stay in there and potentially rot the 4x4

UPDATE:
fricked this up. I let my nephew set posts while I was gone. He set four 4x4 and 2 4x6. He put the string on the wrong side and I essentially have an extra 2 inches. Should I notch the 4x6 out and set the runners inside? Or should I add some spacers for the four 4x4's?

Can we get pics of the frick up?

I would notch the 4x6 but you will lose some strength doing so
I think the spacers would look kind of funky

There aren't really any. The 4x6 is lined up with the 4x4 but on the wrong side. So the side I need the runners on is off by 2 inches

I think I could be by with tacking a one by on top of the 4x4

Yes. It will look less like a bear's butt sewed up with barbed wire if you do that.

Yeah
Essentially making your 4x4's into 4x6's is a good option
Probably the quickest solution too

I'm torn now. Everybody has a differing opinion.

Find out where your cross 2x4's need to hit the 2x6's. Set a skill saw 2 inches deep (Really 1 3/4 to be the true depth of a 2x4).
Anyway, run the skill saw across your 4X6 at the top and bottom marks where the 2x4 is suppossed to connect. Then run it 20 more times in between the 2 cuts. Eventually you will be able to wiggle and slide the saw back and fourth in between the 2 original cuts. Now you have a notched area to recieve the 2x4.
Clean look and a lot stronger since it will have bottom support along with your screws.
I'm going to see if I can find a youtube of someone doing what I am talking about.
