I mean what did you expect you were going to get here with a question like that? This ain’t the OT, but god dang why don’t you just ask the board to drop their pants and show you what they got?

Coming in here, talking down to people, flipping them off, and then calling them assholes....All while asking for help and advice.
That's not very nice.

This isn’t one of those sights.
There are 100s or more that read these boards and never post and would have no issues whatsoever of taking anything posted and cleaning a spot out.
I fish spots that are fished everyday by other anglers during season...sometimes they clean them out sometimes they don't...its about more than showing up to any popular spot. It's about timing, correct bait, correct wind. Tide, moon etc....come on baw

Asking someone for numbers on the internet is a big time googan move. And then to get defensive and assinine over it on the first response? Good luck.

I gave all my spots on this thread that In over 15 years that has boated over 4000 trout...so what? I still slay the fish in those areas...I wasn't getting defensive, I was answering an a-hole reply from someone who obviously is a weekend warrior that thinks that keeping their secret spot a secret is the key to good fishing when in reality they don't know shite about being on the water...

not when you’re talking about snapper.

can u catch snapper closer like tiger shoal area? Can u get them 30ft of water?
No Mark Sosin, that’s where you catch the big trout. Do you really understand the moon tides and winds in that area? Perhaps a bucket of crickets and a bobber is your best bet.

Thank you for your spots. I appreciate it. In return, I will share a few of mine. Go SSW at roughly 216 degrees for 37 miles. This is where I went last year for many of my bigger snapper. There were not too many culls. But it was a little longer ride and more fuel. And if we had a moderate to strong SW wind it was not a fun ride. I have several good spots 17-19 miles out at a dead 180. You can catch a solid limit and will probably catch one or two in the 10-15# range. May catch a sure enough good one. In close due south gets a lot of pressure. But there are still some good fish there. The two biggest snapper I have ever had come on board were on rocks 55 miles out, and at a chicken cage only 12 miles out. I would say caught, but usually I just hold the wheel and try not to hit something. So, you can catch big ones in close. And then if you want to go SE, there are a lot of fish 22-24 miles out at 167 degrees. Better average than that 17-19 miles spots I gave you above.. But the average won’t be as good as the 37 mile spot.

quote:I'm not sure I understand your about crickets and a bobber comment but yes I do understand in watching moon placement, wind direction and tide movt where I fish north of tiger shoal and use them everytime before I make a decision to go fishing. I used to have a smaller boat so I never ventured that far and didn't need to. I have never been snapper fishing . I have snapper equipment and watched utube enough, I just want a general direction not to far away on good days.

snapper out of
Cocodrie
Go really frickin far, or put the boat on the trailer and haul it to grand isle or Venice.
Cocodrie is not the most friendly place to go red snapper fishing in a bay boat.

Also other spots you mentioned...just 2 questions..
...these directions will have platform's in the areas your mentioning?
...these are distances out of sw pass right?
I have a 23ft hybrid so I guess good days I can get out there...
Thanks for the info, this was all I was asking to get a general feel for what I'm looking at travel wise...
On a side note , the spots I spoke of will produce good trout once the river drops usually under 10ft for sure, u may know this already if you fish closer to the pass area...moon over or under foot helps. I like a slight variable north wind tbh the best in the summer out of the pass. Of course we all like a falling tide but any moving water is good...

If you're a weekend warrior like I am, you should trailer the boat somewhere else when the stars line up and the weather is right during a snapper season weekend and your crew is down to go.
I have a 24' bay boat and I never get a day with good enough weather to go snapper hunting out of cocodrie. Unless you have the secret coordinates, you'll be running far. Hell its like 7 miles just to get to last island. You can find 100' of water about 15 miles out of bridgside in grand isle. You'll be way TF out there leaving coco marina before you find that. My nuts arent big enough to do it without a 30' plus boat with twins.

I agree and figured so about cocodrie. I fish cocodrie alot in May and early June. so I know the area pretty well up to the beach on last island. Tbh I dont fish weekends, I pick my days during the week unless I have to fish on a Saturday, I usually fish during the week. For snapper fishing I'll most likely try out of the point on good days, I'll definitely learn tiger shoal out of sw pass for larger trout but I've caught big trout at the reefs closer to the pass also. Thanks for your info

Well if you can pick your days you'll be alright. Head SSE from last island till you get tired of riding, find a rig, drop a live hardtail down there and see what happens. Move in or out based on what you catch. There's some skill involved with catching mangroves but for reds, you just gotta be out there. The man who goes the farthest catches the biggest, not counting the guys fishing on the unmarked wrecks/reefs. Im not sure its possible to get out of sight of a rig fishing out of Louisiana in a single engine boat without getting stupid

Meh, I’ve made bait at a SS rig just south of my duck lease where 10s of 1000s of trout have been caught since 80s and headed south in 24 ranger and caught hammer snapper. Now someone give up their grouper hole.

Lol exactly...
Can u explain the catch for a mangrove vs a red snapper?
Is it like the difference between catching a red fish vs a speck or am I way off?

Yall that have been doing it a while always have good stories about boating 30 pounders in sight of land. I just started doing the offshore thing about 3 years ago, weekends only and with nothing but a tank of gas and some calcuttas with broomstick rods. We've managed to fill the fish box several times but we had to work for it. Theres a wholeeeeeeeeeee lot of other mafukkas out there these days.
Best trip we've ever had stuffing the box with snapper and lemonfish, you can see land in all the pictures
Better to be lucky than good I guess.

Basically red snappers are idiots and will eat anything that passes infront their faces. Mangroves are finicky and will steal your bait, not bite if they can see the hook, only hit live bait sometimes, etc.
Because they are harder to catch, you can sometimes catch mangroves at close rigs. You aint catching red snapper at close rigs during snapper season unless you are a hardcore SOB and beating the other boats there.
