Hurricane check in from SW Virginia

I've been here 40 years and never seen anything like this. Just got our power and communications restored yesterday evening after 8 days of losing it. Generator was working full time for those 8 days, too. Saved our freezer and refrigerator food. We had 13+ inches of rain here in 4 days. NC, and far eastern Tennessee had even more. I've got 5 downed, big oak trees to cut up when I can get to them. And we were lucky and very fortunate here. So much to report but I won't even attempt to do it all here. Interstate 26, East and West is closed because of the bridge that was completely washed out near Erwin, Tennessee going into NC. Replacement is expected to be completed by September 2025. Interstate 40, East and West is completely blocked and closed down between NC and Tennessee. That stretch is expected to reopen by March of 2025. If you are planning a trip to the Smokies to see the fall leaves, go ahead and cancel your trip. There are communities and towns that are now GONE. Missing persons count is still climbing as there are some areas that haven't even been reached by rescue crews. Those survivors who got out with the clothes on their back have nowhere to go. FEMA is a joke with their current response. Hotels and motels in the Gatlinburg and Asheville areas will be booked IF they are even able to open. Asheville is under curfew from 7:30-7:30 until further notice. We have had power crews from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Indiana, Michigan, and Canada here to help regain power. They have all been magnificent with their assistance and hard work. I've enclosed a link to some video of Chimney Rock, NC which shows just ONE community/town that is GONE. There are dozens more like Chimney Rock. I'm about 80 miles from Gatlinburg and Asheville. Erwin, Tennessee is about 40 miles from here. I will update as I can. I'm still getting caught up on everything myself from not having any power or access to the news. But...we are safe and I thank the Good Lord for our blessings and good luck. Here is one link showing and representing the damage suffered in our region. LINK Here is youtube video link of damage in Erwin, Tennessee LINK

Terrible for that area. Visited Maggie Valley 3 years ago and it was beautiful.Pray the people there can get back on their feet sooner than projected. BTW, frick Brandon and FEMA.

I was trying to remember who on this board was from Virginia and how they made out.. Guess it was you. Thanks or checkin. always interesting hearing updates firsthand.
I still can't get over how far and how bad this storm affected inland. Freaking Virginia, Tennessee, SC and NC. And obviously it wasn't just rain and flooding either. I know a north GA baw and there are trees down EVERYWHERE

I heard that the Cajun Navy is up here, too, but I don't know where?

Mind if I ask what town or nearby town in SW VA?
I was planning on going back to Harlan County KY this week to ride in the mountains like I do every October. But am second guessing going. I ride Stone Mountain which borders KY & VA mostly when I go. I'm sure trees are down but wondering how bad.
