Spent a couple days running around North La. flipping tin with the Florida boys. 42 snakes/12 species including my lifer La. milk and Eastern coachwhip. We had a grey rat triple-flip and 4 double-copperhead flips. Louisiana milk snakes are technically no longer their own subspecies - they’re just considered Western milks now…though most locals will always call them La. milks. This one was in an area where Western milks and Red milks overlap and was an intergrade - pretty much looking like a typical La. milk except for a red head instead of a black head. Yesterday the guys hit another spot without me (I was driving to Dallas) and got 3 more La. milks!

1 La. milk/red milk intergrade
1 Eastern coachwhip
1 Canebrake rattlesnake
1 Speckled kingsnake
15 Eastern copperheads
6 Grey rat snakes
4 Northern cottonmouths
2 Eastern garter snakes
6 Western ribbon snakes
3 DeKay’s brown snakes
1 Black-masked racer
1 Plain-bellied water snake

The coachwhip played dead the whole time - even drooling…

Good thing you are wearing snake boots, otherwise your foot would be vulnerable to a snake bite.

Saw a bunch of tin on the ground in a pine thicket where an old barn used to be and I actually throught of your threads. Tried to get my oldest to flip some tin to see what was under while I filmed. He passed.

The big cane nipped my buddy’s boot - same guy who got tagged by the Eastern diamondback in Dec. ‘24.
Thankfully he’s booted up now.

…it’s safer to hold them up near your face so they can’t reach your leg.

as someone who has been bitten by a cotton mouth, handling a copperhead like that doesn't seem to be a very good idea.

I found four speckled king snakes under a piece of tin at my old place in Folsom. It was awesome. I would have shat myself if it had been copper heads.

It was very cool. They are beautiful snakes. There were a bunch of them around my place. I caught a lot. I saw more of them than any other snake. Also a pile of box turtles.

It used to scare the crap out me to flip the old aluminum boat over to fish our pond as a kid. And you go doing this shite in purpose?
