I just hit Mark up with a random question via text this week, he answered very quickly and helped out a ton, he is a stand up guy that knows his stuff

Well I’ve been researching for a new pup as well. I grew up with a yellow lab and then when I was in high school I got a black female for Christmas. I think she helped me win over my now wife. Her and I also got a chocolate female later on.
When our daughter was born a month or so late we had to put the black one down(she was 14). Then, 3 years later after our son was born we had to put the chocolate down at 6(bladder cancer)
I spent a 1/2 hour on phone with Mark yesterday afternoon and this morning I put a deposit down on a chocolate female.

I could absolutely see him spending half hour and more on phone call after today. Good dude. He emailed and then we switched to texts and I tried to limit as to not “bother” him.
I saw there’s January chocolates coming in …. I told him I’ll be back next year for a chocolate male.
Maybe it was a timing thing, but I didn’t even put a deposit down before today. He just took my word for it.

We drove up on that looooong gravelly road… like where does this end?
I’m definitely getting my next lab from him unless someone finds me a local pup or seemingly worthy lab shelter dog I can vet
I’m so glad with recommendations. It’s a testament to tigerdroppings folks. Luckily I’m in the New Orleans area and it was only a 2 hour and 20 minute drive to get there.

Picking up our pup tomorrow

1) I shouldn’t have clicked because I can’t resist a lab pup.
2) I’m not sure about any breeder who doesn’t use 3 and only 3 colors to describe a lab. They are black, yellow, or chocolate. That’s it - no blonde, no red, no other color than those three. They can be shades, but they fall under one of those three and should only be referred to as one of those three.
Now get off my lawn.

Yes , you are officially correct, AKC only recognizes the 3 colors and fox red is officially a yellow that Is on the end of the yellow color spectrum, which is highly sought after with “British” labs, and before you go off on that no AKC distinction between American and British labs
Does the word clip instead of magazine , bullet vs cartdrige , horn vs antler, etc bother you that much too? Check with your dr they have meds to help with your anxiety

Tell Mark I said hello, and listen to him when he says not to stop and let the pup go to the bathroom anywhere other dogs are, he has a horrible story about a couple from Chicago who did not follow directions, twice

Yes to all of that and it’s not anxiety, it’s accuracy.

Highly recommend Huntfield Kennels as was stated above. I got a puppy from them early this year and this is the best dog I've ever had so far.
I second this. Picked up our chocolate female (Sugar) on Nov 8th I believe. I work with her about 10 minutes every day. She has already got sit, down, here, and place down really well. She is also retrieving to hand off a stand. Also, she learned to ring some reindeer bells on our back door to go out in less than a week from coming home. Great with our 5 and 3yo. Goes to her kennel by herself and sleeps in it every night. Very impressed so far.

Champion Retrievers near Alexandria probably has one of if not the best chocolate bloodline around. I’m actually thinking of getting another dog from them. Lost mine last year. He would been 12 in two weeks
