Bought millions worth of materials as well. Gonna have brand new materials on auction sites soon.

I do not know this as gospel, but I have been told that the GC likes to buy new machinery for a project like this. After the job is over, they auction off the iron. If that is true, they are going to take a bath on this part of the situation.

The untold story is all of the guys that the GC hired away from local construction companies now are unemployed.

Think I confused that with the mid Breton plan

Probably only 30% plans at this point. Not too far down this road.

Years ago Don Dubuc predicted this. He made the argument that we should focus on saving what was still left instead of the pie in the sky map of 1886.

Besides the wasting of 616 million dollars, were we fans of the actual project? Was that going to affect the fishing along the coast? I admittedly don’t know much about the project itself other than it was supposed to help rebuild land

Why wouldn't you be? Who gives a frick about shrimpers and oystermen having to travel further? They won't have to travel very far in 25 years when Houma is underwater.

Asking about whether fishing along the coast is going to be affected when the southern part of the state is going to be consumed by the ocean is incredibly stupid.

I was a fan of it. Dredging and rock will not fix anything.

The only way to slow or stop the tide is to do it with the river.

This is going to run the way the Comite project did, die for decades then be too little too late down the road at a higher cost to tax payers. Landry has been a complete disappointment. The area they are wanting to introduce freshwater to had freshwater pushing through it prior to the levees. The oyster and shrimp lobbies somehow keep their claws in Lousiana politicians at the detriment to the state.

Politics is always about power.

Reason #63738 why we can’t have nice things in this banana republic.

Selling out grandkids’ future opportunities for the here and now.

I remember when we had a sensical Republican (Ralph Abraham) on the ballot and instead of him we chose Eddie F’ing Rispone to run on the Republican ticket because south Louisiana baws didn’t want some north Louisiana hand

Everybody should’ve seen this coming from a mile away.
Landry has duped a lot of people that just weren’t paying attention when voting.

It was kind of the keystone of the coastal master plan. Dredging creates immeidate effects, but without new sediment it just gets washed away in a storm. The diversion would take a long time to build land, but it would be more sustainable. The success of West Bay, the Atchafalaya, Neptune, Mardi Gras pass, and others have shown that diversions do work just not quickly. There was a study on Neptune/Mardi Gras showing that the initial building was relocated sediment but since then sediment from the river has been building more land. The river carries considerably less sediment than it did before the levees, but high river years do get a heavier sediment load. The 2011 high river helped West Bay acculmulate a significant amount of sediment.

Would push saltwater species further out due to the introduction of freshwater. Just like Bonne Carre, saltwater species are dispersed in years after the opening. Just have to go further out to catch them. Long term, would benefit redfish, bass, shrimp.
