I just bought one but haven't shot it yet. Did some research tho and most of the forums say it is a good reliable shotgun. Maybe not as smooth as the 500 or 870, but no real problems. Academy guy said they have been selling them for 5-6 years with no problems.

I've heard/read the same. Mine is actually smoother than my 870.

Mine came with a big arse "Made in America" sticker on it.

The 500's are made in Connecticut. The Mavericks are made in Eagle Pass, Tx. Basically Mexico, but technically US.

Went home today with the Maverick 88. Gonna order the HD barrel, heat shield, mount for flashlight, and flashlight in that order.

If you are in the market for a HD weapon I would invest in the Saiga 12 with drum. I have one and it is one hell of a HD weapon!...Plus it is a lot of fun to shoot at the camp!!

Do you have to have the $200 tax stamp to own this gun? I'll only have $375 max invested into mine when it's all said and done. I'm sure you have a lot more invested in that Saiga.

Nope...I bought mine at a gun show in Texas and then ordered the drum and collapsible stock offline. Total investment is under $750.00

I've got the 835 Mossberg. Love it. Had it for around 15 years and only had a few issues with it. Tough as hell though.

Nope the barrel is actually 19" so it's not classified as a class 3 SBS firearm.
