Fished the back side of Grand Isle out of the kayak launch, was a tough day, ended up with 1 trout and 1 flounder. Tons of blowups on topwater from a bunch of tiny trout.

Was that you and your buddy in Ascends? I was in the PA that was loading up as y’all came in.

Tough morning for me as well... tried the submerged reef at first light and wasn’t getting any blowups on top, so headed behind Dutch island and started catching trout. They were everywhere, but small. Only kept 2, but those were decent size 2lb trout.
Fished the marsh around the submerged reef as I came in, hoping to find some flounder, but nada

Oh well, at least the weather was nice!

No but I saw those guys. I was in a blue Compass, I think I saw you out by the reef early in the morning. We had a small group from LKFC make the drive yesterday morning.

Took both of my boys over to my FILs pond this afternoon. We ended up keeping 18 nice bream, 12 good eating catfish, and 3 pound and a half bass. 4jr wants to keep everything he catches, and the bass we kept all fake on his brand new Zebco 33 rig.

We also killed a fat 30” cottonmouth behind the pond with 4jr’s brand new single shot 410 he got last week for his kindergarten graduation.

Gotta let them boys keep their fish so they can eat the one they caught. I remember being a kid and eating fried fish after a long day of fishing, every piece I would grab I would say ( this is the one I caught ). Boy do I wish I was young again with no worries.

Caught a 2 limits with my nephew on Friday. Awesome morning, once the sun came up we would pretty much wait until it got overcast and the fish would start hitting again.

I pan fried a few fillets in butter and had them on top of a salad for dinner tonight. I made a dressing with cucumber, dijon mustard, lemon juice, avocado oil, dill, and sour cream that is perfect for fish.

We fished out of Grand Isle Saturday morning. It was our fist time out in the new boat so we didn't go very far out. Hit the first set of rigs and did well. 3 limits of Red snapper, 5 mangroves,
6 crevalle jacks, 1 Spanish Mackerel and one red fish.

Around the middle of the island near the kayak launch/LDWF building. Take a left out of the launch and go about a 1/2 mile and you'll see signs, it's a metal structure about 50 yards off the bank.

I was just having a conversation on my facebook outdoor page with a guy about the jacks. We always heard the same thing, that they were trash fish and only good for crab bait. We were catching a ton of em so we decided to do a little research on em. They are making a real surge it looks like. They are a real bloody fish and it eats a lot like beef so they say you should treat it as such. We have some recipes for tacos and kabobs so we are gonna try em out.

We caught a million 12" bass this weekend, but nothing over 2.5lbs. Heading back on Friday to try a gain.

Had a blast yesterday chasing schooling bass on topwater. They were wearing out the poppers and spooks. Nothing huge but some solid 2-3lbers mixed in.

[insert dropshot joke]

Sorry I couldn't resist, I need you to recommend me a spinning rod that will do a few different things. I used one of my inshore combos to throw a dropshot this weekend and it sucked arse.

Budget? In general, a 7' ML/XF is a great finesse bass rig. Can throw dropshots, Neko, wacky finesse worms and smaller shaky heads. I throw that rod as much or more than just about anything here in OK either fishing deeper clear water or small rivers. Match it with a 2500 series spinning reel, 8lb nanofil and you are good to go.
