Can't imagine buying enough shrimp for 3 guests @ .50/each
Reminds me of a funny story, I was standing behind a guy at Grand Isle Marina over the summer.
*I need live shrimp
**How many?
*What's the trout limit here?
**15
*Give me 15.
**You probably won't catch 15 trout on 15 shrimp, you probably want some extras
*How much are they?
**50 cents each.
*Give me 17

Istrouma Brewing closing the farm location, moving to Baton Rouge

Dear Friends,
Istrouma at Sugar Farms is officially closed and will be moving to a new location in Fall 2026! As my Grandmother used to say, “We are going to town(Baton Rouge)!” The farm and the Istrouma facility in St. Gabriel will be sold. Leaving the farm is hard but we are looking forward to the next chapter.
My family and I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this dream come true helping create life long memories for your families and ours.
Moving was a difficult decision weighed with love and prayer. It affects our family, our incredible staff, and our AMAZING customers. But we cannot wait to see you in our new location….we will keep you posted with progress and hope to announce sometime in the near future!
Warm Regards,
The Haynes Family
Bummed to hear this as being on the farm was probably the biggest reason we loved bringing our kids, we've made the drive more than a few times from Lafayette to go spend an afternoon there and they loved seeing all the animals.

Any Mercury Outboard Tech/Gurus? Critical Alert/ECM Question...
Posted by YOURADHERE on 1/15/26 at 12:22 pm
Quick question on how critical warnings would be stored on a Mercury ECM. Are they stored by date/time stamp? Or stored by hours/run time?
Example: A low oil pressure warning happens, the warning is cleared, is that warning stored in the ECM by the date/time that it happened? Or is it stored by run time? Or both? Being that this is considered a critical warning would it not have triggered Guardian Mode?

I don't use them very often but when I grabbed some back in the summer I want to say they were $0.50/each.

Not really the stepsides of yesteryear but Ford offers a little step thing in the bedside, and yes since they're so tall its quite handy. Pretty sure GM & Ram do as well.

Posted by YOURADHERE on 1/13/26 at 12:32 pm to Demps
The hack for driving I12 is just get in the right lane and set the cruise about 65-68, that's what I do for that stretch now and my blood pressure is much lower. I got sick of the constant fighting for position and having to ride the arse of the car in front of me so that some a-hole can't come flying up on the right to try to squeeze in. Now I just hang out in the right and let all the other idiots fight it out.

Red jacket guy coming back for seconds was my favorite part. After getting knocked out the first time, he returns, approaches the guy again with his hands down, and just eats a punch that the guy had like a 3 second windup on, and folds like a lawn chair
re: Want to start processing my own deer and looking for quality electric meat grinder.
Posted by YOURADHERE on 12/30/25 at 10:20 am to TIGERRVER
I almost went with a dual-grind but it was like $150 extra and was trying to stay around the $400 mark. Honestly I thought I was missing out but I did 20lb last night on my single grind, the initial grind took about 2 minutes, and the second grind maybe 4 minutes. I can see the benefit if you're doing a TON of meat but for the DIY guy doing 1-2 deer a year it's probably not necessary.

I just bought the Meat 1hp, it was on sale for Black Friday with the foot pedal for like $420, probably overkill for what I need as far as size/power but it was only like $50 more than the .5hp with no pedal. So basically for what it cost for me to get one deer processed I've bought a big grinder as well as an 11lb sausage stuffer. I'll be processing 1 or 2 deer a year, making sausage/boudin, etc. I've got 2 deer in the cooler to process this week, will do mostly all ground meat mixed with brisket. I started last night and it ripped through 20lb in ~2 minutes, was quite impressive.
Previously I've used my Kitchenaide/grinder attachment to just do a brisket and that was atleast an hour. If anyone is considering that route I suggest not even bothering.

I bought myself a 1hp meat grinder, processed 20lb of brisket/venison last night, this thing is amazing.
Was also gifted one of these, I'm both excited and terrified to learn how to use this thing

I added 2 to my cart and started to place an order, but at checkout process it felt like a red flag that the only payment they offered was all the various online payments like zelle, cash app, venmo, paypal, etc, no option to pay with a credit card, or via crypto currency for a 15% discount. Yea, that site is bullshite for sure.

I think I’ve sold everything I ever posted on marketplace in under a week. You gotta ignore the 3000 “is this still available messages?” And the lowballs. If they’re serious, they’ll circle back with an actual message.
Tractors, trucks, boats, furniture, trailers, lawnmowers, etc. I think it’s great.
I buy/sell a ton of crap on Marketplace, and always see people complaining about the auto-prompted "Is this available?" message, and how they ignore them. I always take the 2 seconds to simply reply "yes", and probably 80% of the time a buyer will continue with actual questions on the item. Looking back through my messages, 4 of the last 6 things I've sold started with a "Is this available?" message, it isn't that difficult to simply reply "yes" and see where it goes.
re: rib roast pricing in your area?

Lafayette area, looks like Albertson's has choice for $7.97/lb starting tomorrow, Super 1 has selects for $8.97, but had them for $6.97 just 2 weeks ago. Aldi is $7.99 for choice but ends today. $16.98 for prime at Rouses but ends tomorrow.
I've never bought and cooked one but keep getting tempted to try it out.

I heard a rumor that the facial recognition at the self check out keeps tabs on people that skip scanning items or scan a cheaper barcode in order to reduce the price of an item. Once you hit the felony monetary level of theft that information and video is turned over to the police. And they already have your plate number from tracking you to the parking lot.
Their AI accused me of theft of a bell pepper a few weeks ago.
I stopped into Walmart to pick something up for my wife and only the self checkout was open, I was cooking gumbo that day so I figured I'd just get the produce stuff there. While doing the self checkout the machine stopped and wanted an attendant to come over, he comes over, ask what he can help with, I tell him no clue, the machine did it, turns out the overhead camera thought I'd put 5 bell peppers in my bag, even though I only had 4, and put 4 into the quantity.

Damn, that one stung a little. I get sentimental about weird shite, and the 4Runner we own is one of them and that’s pretty much exactly how I imagine it going. It was the first vehicle my wife and I purchased after we got married, we’ve road tripped in it, had off-road adventures in it, our kids came home from the hospital in it, picked up our new pup in it, lots of family adventures around it, and more to come. I plan to keep it forever and let the kids drive it when old enough.
re: If you want good charbroiled oysters at a nice restaurant, where are you going?
Posted by YOURADHERE on 12/4/25 at 11:19 am to LSU6262
The roasted oysters at Vestal in Lafayette are probably my favorite, especially if looking for a place for a nice anniversary dinner. They're different from any of the oysters from a place like Uncle Ts or Dragos, etc. They typically also have a wide selection for raw oysters from various regions. Book a seat at the counter facing the kitchen, get the crab cake too.
