Mossberg 940 PRO opinions

I've never shot or owned a semi-automatic shotgun. I'm looking for something that I could do a little of everything with. Main uses of this gun would be trap shooting and home defense though. But if I did want to ever go squirrel, turkey, or bird hunting I would want it to be a good option as well.
I've seen mixed reviews online. Seen videos of a couple lemons but also videos of guys taking it out of the box and putting 4 different loads through it with ease.
The 2 models I'm looking at. Both 3 inch 12 gauge
1. Field with Walnut stock 28" barrel 4+1 capacity $889.99
2. Jerry Miculek (JM) 24" barrel. I would buy extended chokes for trap. I like the extra capacity(9+1) and heard it's good for 3 gun if I ever got involved in that. $969.99

I have this one. Never had any issues. It's hard to beat for the money. Bought it for 3 gun and then they shut down the only 3 gun match around me. So I added a surefire, a red dot, and turned it into a home defense gun.
