I love my Ram 1500 and my brother in law has always had Ram diesels in 2500 and 3500. I don't know of any major issues he has had. He has never been left stranded by a Ram and he pulls heavy equipment on a fifith wheel several times a week.

I follow Ram forums closely. If you don't want to go to Idaho to buy one, Mark Dodge in Lake Charles gets tons of great reviews online. I have no connection to them at all but I constantly read about guys from all over the South that head to Mark Dodge to purchase.

You must be very rough on vehicles. I still own essentially the same 2008 chev diesel with maintenance type things done to keep it going but nothing major.

In the first four years of ownership the fuel filter housing cracked allowing air into the system and caused starting issues, had a water leak from rear cab exterior light, dash cracked, power locks went out, speakers quit working, 5 of 8 glow plugs needed replacement and the oil pan needed to be resealed this was all fixed under warranty. I traded it just as warranty was expiring. This was a pre gm bailout truck and I didn’t want to see what gremlins were lurking after warranty expired.

Half of those are standard maintenance for 225K. No way in hell I get a new diesel unless I really was pulling a lot.

It isn’t new but I have a 2016 Duramax fully deleted with 238,000 miles. Best truck I’ve ever had. I’ve had maintenance of course but nothing major.

Was gonna go gas this time around and still may but seems the price difference isn’t much

Price is close but the resale value is nowhere near comparable. A gasser resale value plummets at 100k miles which is why I went diesel.

I’m at 191k on my 2017 f250 diesel. Normal maintenance and 1 fuel injector so far. It’s been a great truck and they were a lot more reasonably priced when I bought it. The rangers cost now what my truck was in 2017.

2016 F250 with 194k here and Ive replaced 75% of what you listed plus deleted due to DEF system failure. No intentions of getting rid of this thing unless it completely blows up with the prices out there today. Im hoping to rock it another 100k+ miles. Picked up a car just to commute to work and now use this as my camp/towing truck.

As much as i love to hate on ford... You will spend more than that on a new one just keeping it running.

That's not bad at all for a 12 year old truck.

No it really isn’t bad but I have just never kept a vehicle long enough to have issues where it was unusable from time to time. Oh my truck was deleted as well years ago. I use it as a daily driver unfortunately so when it’s down it leaves me in a bind. Have a 90 mile round trip commute daily. I’d get something smaller and keep this one just for towing but I hate to add a fourth vehicle to insurance

I've bought two vehicles from them. Both from my living room, did all the paperwork online. They requested pictures and video of my trade in. I only set foot in the dealership to pick up my keys and drop off the old truck. Would highly recommend.

Ram 2500s are going to the ZF transmission. The '24 3500s have the Aisin transmission, which is well regarded.

Get the new 2025 Ram from Dave Smith. Sounds like that new transmission will better pair up with the Cummins

If you really want a RAM contact Dave Smith Motors in Kellog ID.

Curious if any of you have gotten pricing from them. I actually lived in Kellogg for a few years and thought about contacting them recently when I bought my 2024 ram 2500 diesel 4wd tradesman, but ended up buying at Allstar for 51k. Matt bowers was also about the same price. Wonder if DS is cheap enough to justify the trip back. Unless you just want to see that part of the world, which isn’t a bad reason.

The 8 speed is long overdue, but i personally wouldn't want the first year model of a redesign. All manufacturers use the first customers as the guinea pigs these days. I'd wait till the 26 models.

The Chevy/GMC Duramax will have the best transmission. The Ram Cummins is a solid engine but expect the transmission to not hold up over time. The Ford trannies are shite now days.

This is misinformation at its finest. Ford’s 10R140 is overbuilt compared to GM’s fake Allison transmission.

ZF PowerLine is a commercial vehicle transmission based on a proven design with more than 20 million transmissions in the market.

Ford Super Duty trucks, particularly those equipped with the 10R140 10-speed transmission, are known to have issues with rough shifting, delayed engagement, and potential transmission failure, primarily due to problems with the internal clutch packs, planetary gear assembly, and the oil pump, which can lead to low oil pressure under heavy loads or towing situations; this is often reported as erratic shifting behavior or even complete loss of power.

Where are you hearing this from? I’ve owned multiple heavy duty trucks and the 10R140 is a fantastic transmission.

The only transmission that I would worry about is Ram’s 68RFE but with stock power it’s still decent.
