If I did my math correctly, 22,000 acres is 34.375 square miles. How big of a goon squad do you need to patrol an area that large? And why patrol it so diligently, is probably the bigger question. This doesn't sound like your run of the mill overly possessive duck hunters.

The area I posted on page one is not anywhere near 22k acres. I believe that may be total acreage of all land owned.

But I do agree

I'm just going off of Choupiquesushi's comments throughout this thread. He sounds as if he's "in the know" on this topic.

A couple of posters pointed out that the total acreage is composed of multiple parcels, but it sounds like they're mostly adjacent to each other in Orleans and St. Bernard (obviously the MRGO separates the parcels along the parish line.

This is not exactly the truth !The trespasser left his gun in the woods and one of the club members found the weapon and when he was bringing the weapon to the capture site the perpetrator punched the club member in the face for fear that the club member was going to keep the perpetrators weapon and that's when the club member proceeded to open up a can of whipass on the perpetrator. And it was a one on one altercation which was broken up at once. The folks that lease that property are honest law abiding guys that pay a very large amount of money to hunt there and every unethical trespasser comes from chalmette to steal and destroy all the work that the lease holders put into that said piece of property.. I could tell you anything you want to know about hunting in N.O.East as i grew up hunting out there since i was 13yrs old and that's 44 yrs ago.. There is so much false propaganda floating around about that place and its all lies. The most dangerous person out there is an ole man by the name of Gill and This fella has had more men thrown into jail under false pretenses and has created more enemies for himself that its a wonder that he sleeps at all. Now mind you he has never done me any dirt as i stay clear away from this gentleman and i have no axe to grind with Gill what so ever but i know the real land owner and i know the truth of all these matters. A lot of this stuff is orchestrated by the smaller lease holder to discredit the larger lease holder. Can you guess why? You got it! N.O.East hunting is not for faint of heart and if you get past the giant rattle snakes then you may be arrested by friends of Gill or if you make it past that you may find you vehicle gone or vandalized.. And just for the record i am not a member of any of these leases as i no longer hunt in Louisiana....

Do you have any trail cam pics of said trespasser that can be added to the OB trespasser photo thread?

I'd imagine the hogs are thick in those woods.

Several years after Katrina, a friend of a friend invited me to go hog hunting off Lake Forrest and Michoud Blvd. I respectfully declined since the odds of finding skeletal remains were pretty high. I wanted NOTHING to do with the East

I had some friends that hunted somewhere out there last yr and the yr before. Said there was a ton of hogs and the deer were poor, as in health and size. He did have an interesting story of a battle royal where one group made a road block with tires, like hundreds of them and a melee insued between a couple dozen men or so.

Did ole man Gill previously own or lease this property? How does he get people arrested for hunting on their own property? Is there some type of easement that's in dispute or are leaseholders crossing Gill's property to get to the 22,000 acre tract?

What's his beef? Surely he can't think he's entitled to hunt anywhere just because he's lived out there longer than most people. If so, it sounds like maybe ole man Gill needs to have a hunting accident.

Did this happen on one of the abandoned I-10 exits?

I have heard more on what happened and this what you say is what I hear as well. Just found it odd that I post about an area across the street a week prior, then hear all sorts of good ole boy stories, and then all this happens.

The Tresspasser had no right there and once he swung, he had what was coming.

Besides it not being my property, the Rattlesnakes would be enough to keep me out

it's not.... they don't patrol the whole thing.. but... they easy access points yes.. and I think it is 3 loose entities.. involved... in one or two conglomerations.... whew... also.... uhm...I think there is an awful lot of bad blood between some of the former lease holders(not Gill, but 2 high ranking NOPD fellas) and the new owners...I know some of the guys that leased stuff on the op side of mr go are mad as hell and trespassing at will.... Me.... mais where one of our blinds was is technically in state owned water bottom - but... I ain't fightin' that battle... nor is anyone in our group of 10 - and one of those is about as politically connected as you can get.... he's just buying his portable buildings and trailers elsewehre... now.

there have been a couple of blow ups... started in teal season.... actually I went to get chairs and some other stuff out of one of our blinds right before teal season.. and I was met by a nice young man that knew exactly who i was and was respectful and did not yell or cuss at me and I informed someone above his pay grade... who also informed me that he knew said blind was in parish owned waterbody but I had to cross their water for over a mile to get there - please stay out.... I asked if I could fish there after duck season he said yes.. and if you see a hog shoot it... the conversations with others that had leases out there did not go as well as mine... but hey.. I am a very nonconfrotational kinda guy

The Tresspasser swung on the guys that went to tell him to leave. He was a big ole boy. The guys there to tell him to leave had his firearm that he left in the woods. They took it away, the trespasser got mad at that and the situation, and then swung.

Not bad guys. Just guys that were called out about a possible tresspasser that turned into a scuffle.

I love that NOPD can't manage to answer a call for service in a timely fashion, but seems to have the time to get involved in this situation. All off duty, I'm sure.
