I wish I had known of this kind of thing as a younger person. No chance in hell I can do it now. Loved the pics.

Of course you can. If you're not in a wheelchair then you do it. I've hiked with numerous people over 60. It will take you longer but you can definitely do it. The average hiker just graduated college or just retired. Physicality isn't the issue; the mental issue is most of the problem.

hink this thread has just turned me into a backpacker.

Welcome aboard! Always room for more. Even if it's a small hobby it's great for the mind and soul. Good times.

If I had known what I knew in my thirties, when I was in my twenties, I may have never gotten a "real job." Met a guy in the airport going to E. Europe to teach troublemakers how to ski. F'king jealous.

You ain't ever too old to say F'ck it for a few months and pursue a dream though. Go hike a long trail, raft a long river, climb a high peak.

I think hes in the same boat I am. Its completely getting away from the family. It will be at least 18 yrs before I can take off for 6 months. Maybe could have a few years ago.
Im not sure if Im more jealous of the adventure, or the fact you had 6 months to kill

It's not the number. It's the family and the job. I might as well change careers if I miss more than two straight weeks. If I did that, it would be hell getting over.

And my wife wonders why im hesitant to have another one. Then you have to start that countdown all over again.

That, and this world is getting more fricked up by the day; dont know if i want to bring another into this chaos. Oh, and i like not getting thrown up on, no shite on my hand, not up all night, not contemplating suicide.

Its all good. Got a 3 yrs old girl. They told me this was 2 more girls (identical so will be the same) and I was sweating, for real. But found out last week its boys

ETA: I was so broke after college, I still dont think I could have swung a trip like that.

I told my wife as soon as medical science progresses to the point of the guarantee of a gender, i cant have another one. Because if there was another female in my house, i wouldnt be able to handle it.I suggested we adopt a 4 year old British boy. That way, we're guaranteed a boy, it already knows not to shite itself, and it will come with a really cool accent.

this thread is killing me. I love talking about dropping weight on gear and hiking equipment. We had a hiking trip planned for this summer but it doen't look like it's going to happen. To get my fix I think I'm gonna try to knock out the Lone Star Trail here close to home. Last year we hiked into Chicago Basin, and it was my first trip in years, and it really got me fired up for backpacking again

This is a pretty long trail journal, but I enjoyed reading it alot. He talks about alot of the stuff he did while out there. He actually just finished the end of his journal. Worth the read IMO.
