I hiked Mount Mitchell last month with a few friends. I couldn't even imagine hiking the whole AT.Probably would had a better time if it wasn't for the weather being bad.Rainy during the day and cold as hell at night. But overall a great trip.

You can rent a lightweight tent

I am incredibly jealous. That sounds awesome.
Wish I would have done something like that before I got married and fat and stuff.

The tent won't be a problem, my pack is not heavy at all...
Bring your wife with you... That way she will appreciate you so much more for bringing home the money so she can live in a nice home with air conditioning ha
Eta: driving to Georgia right now.... Frick people that won't get out of the left lane... And people on the phone while driving... I'm riding shot gun so I'm not doing this while driving

Nice. I just stopped at the backpacker in BR. Just liked at the packs and stuff. I was surprised their prices were inline with most of the stuff online.

My dad worked at the backpacker when he was at lsu... Always calls the owner and tells him to take care of me when I come in... Which has been like 3 times ha... I like that place a lot... Got my Merrells from there for this trip
Eta: oh we planned this perfectly, we should be hitting ATL just about 5:30.... Just in time for rush hour! Sweet

The new Merrells look nice. Forgot what they are called. Minimum tread or something.

Well I'm back, had the cut the trip short due to a job interview in Dallas, we went for four days total. It was amazing... One of the best experiences of my life.. About to crack open a delicious fat tire amber and hop in this jacuuzi that is in my room... Ha.
Thanks for everyone who helped with the advice. I had a blast, and we can't wait to start planning our next trip.
I'll get back on tomorrow and upload the pictures and give some more details. Adios

I watched the AT documentary on Netflix that was suggested. You did the same stretch the guy at the beginning did right? Springer to Blood Mountain?
I would love to be able to do that at some point. I know I have to work my way up to it though.

Wasnt able to make it to blood mountain, our pace would have been too slow even if we had 3 in and 3 out, but someone on here said go at your own pace or it won't be fun... Whoever said that thank you! We did the approach trail to springer then we made it to hawk mountain then we had to turn back.. The views were amazing from the top of springer, got a lot of good pics, anyone who has done the approach trail I hope will agree with me, the steps up the waterfall are hands down the hardest thing about the hike
Everyone we ran into on the trail was great, someone knew my gfs parents from back in Morgan city, and I ran into someone who was pledge brothers with a high school classmate.
It's crazy that you have to go to a part of the world very few visit to meet people you are connected with.... Small world... I'll upload tomorrow, on the cell until I get home

Found this last night at work
Never got the chance to get it posted.
I noticed the guy stuffing his sleeping bag in the pouch. I always rolled mine up. Is stuffing it in easier?

I have done around 350 miles on the AT and coming from experience the leatherman is overkill. All u need is a solid folding knife/straight blade. The only flashlight i would recommend is a Petzel Tikka plus

I always stuff mine into a sea to summit waterproof compression sack. Guess it just depends on the bag. It would take me awhile to get my bag rolled up to fit versus stuffing. I'm not completely waterproof so I always have my bag, tent, and clothes in a waterproof compression sack. Even when I know it won't rain I still use them. Weighs next to nothing but it makes organizing simple and they save space.
