Didn't answer you complete question. June of 2010. I think it was the first week. Had some nasty weather early in the day. Didn't have a long sleeve with me. We took the gondola ride to the top of the ridge then I hike from there a couple of miles. The gondola doubles as a ski lift in winter. I had to buy the sweatshirt at the gift shop.
Hiked around the town of Franconia the next day and got covered with ticks around the creek bottoms. Like 100 of ticks on my cloths. I didn't notice til I got back to the hotel room. Took off my clothes and threw them in the tub with soap and hottest water I could get. Somehow none got under my clothes. I had jeans and boots on.

i waited patiently. Thats scary about the ticks...Blue Velvet said they are attracted more to dark clothing. I'll keep that in mind!

I didn't notice til I was walking down the hall in the hotel. Freaked me out and bugs don't bother me. I started Picking them off and realized that wasn't working. So emptied my pockets and jumped in the shower with hot water started. Undressed and left my clothes in the tub soaking in soapy water.

Yep. Earlier today I was thinking of adding a detailed posts about lyme's disease to this thread. I've got it and there's a lot of misinformation out there on the subject.

I'm interested in reading about this. Thank goodness ticks down here don't seem to carry it so often. I probably should try harder to remove them the proper way. SE Oklahoma has the worst tick population of anywhere I've camped

looks like a good filter and it's nice that it will fit onto a lot of different containers
one thing that would concern me is that freezing may ruin the filter. Not sure how hard of a freeze that would have to be, but I know it gets really cold in Colorado at night, even in the summer

sure, but throw it in a ziplock bag so it doesnt drip into your bag
sure as hell though, I'd forget it the night it gets to 10 degrees
If you get one, I'm gonna need a review. I added it to my REI wish list so I dont forget about it.

I use a sawyer and cut the tube on my platypus and insert the filter into the middle of the tube

and there's a way to connect that to your osprey pack? btw, which liter pack do you recommend for the AT?

did you put that entire blue and gray piece in the line, or just the actual filter part?
are those different adapter attachments?

Yeah it's platypus>platypus hose>blue/gray filter>platypus hose>mouthpiece>drink
Very easy and takes one cut with scissors.
I would cut the tube closer to the hydration pack so that the filters stays in your pack and the tube can come out of the pack so you can drink while you walk.
