[/img] I built this one out of a 2x8 and some old rod holders laying around the garage. I travel anywhere from 350 to 500 miles each way when I fish. Laying the rods on top of 4 or 5 peoples gear in the truck bed is way to rough on the rods. I only put this in the truck if I'm hauling alot of gear and am not bringing my boat. If I'm hauling the boat I just store them in the boat's console rod holders. We always leave at least one person at the truck when we have to stop on the ride.

Anything catching wind in a baby bed is trashy and not good for the rods.
Such knowledge. 10 years running approximately 250 miles round trip and Ive never damaged a rod in my holder. Do you run rods up in your boat?

I built one out of pvc that slides under my tool box. The rack is set at an angle that allow the rod tips to clear the top of the tail gate. I will slide a pool noodle over the rods so that if they slapped the tail gate it wouldn’t break the rods. I’ll see if I can find a pic of it.

I will say I built my own and they fit in a hitch carrier when I go to hatteras.
It stores and works perfectly for me.

After reading everyone’s advice and ideas, I came up with this:
I used a E Track mount for the 2x4 to hold it in place.
Overall it’s not so bad. Thanks for the ideas, baws.
