I was only thinking of getting 10 dozen or so just for me and maybe whoever ends up in the skiff with me. I will forgo the hassle and stick with artificials, just not popping corks and doa shrimp. I think you catch more fish that way but not the quality fish. I'll stick to coastal brews, z man ballerz, slick lures and I also have a plethora of marker 54, live target, nomad design and vudu shrimp.

Chandeleur Fishing w/ Live Bait

I've got a 3 day trip mid May and was curious if anyone has fished the islands with live shrimp or croakers? My initial thoughts are that the catfish would be a nightmare with live shrimp but was wondering if anyone has experience trying it. I've kept shrimp alive for days with a bucket and aerator so I don't think that would be an issue, but I'm not so sure if it would be worth the extra hassle. I'm trying to gain any advantage I can to catch quality size fish.TIA
I usually line the inside of my wrapping paper with before wrapping. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I doubt it could be hurting anything either.

Thanks for all the replies. I came across a couple of CI4 stradics that I couldn't pass up, a 3000 and a 4000. I was thinking the 7'3" med/hvy for the the 4k and a med 7'3" for the 3k. These will be for trout fishing. I have 4 Bulls Bay rods that I really like but there rods are $180 each where I can get 2 of the Cajun rods shipped for $245. It seems the specs show they are built with quality components. Thanks Again

Anybody using these rods and have any feedback? I'm thinking about ordering a couple of them for trout rods, but have never seen them anywhere. The price makes it very tempting as wellas being built in the USA.

Whatever the budget to redo the boat is in your mind double or triple it and you will be close to reality. There is a good chance there is rot that has not been detected yet and the tanks probably need to be redone as well. The good thing is these boats were built with 100% fiberglass stringers so it is a hull worth taking on as a project. Rebuilding a boat is a labor of love and in the end (at least in my case) I could have just bought a newer boat up front for the same money I had in it. Here's a good link to a rebuild of a 88 OM 27. It will give you some insight on what to expect.

I love to hunt and fish so I hope to occupy my time doing that, but if I wanted to do a job I would like to be the starter at a golf course or maybe run a bait boat in the mornings.

By far the best is a Tim Wade Cast Nets 321-508-2836

^^^This is your answer right here. I have 2 of his nets and they are great. Give him a call and he will build you a net to your specs.
Danner Bull Run Chelsea. I ordered a pair about 6 months ago and wear them everyday. They may be the lightest boots I've ever worn. I've got a pair of Thorogood 6" Crazy Horse Moc Toe in steel toe and non safety toe under my desk right now and hate putting them on, they are so heavy and uncomfortable compared to the Danner's.

I swapped to a 36v 100AH Epoch on my bay boat 3 years ago. I can run spot lock offshore for 7-8 hours a day and never get below 80% charge.

re: Sea dek for bay boat

I just contacted Luxxdek for a quote for my 23 bay boat. They did not see the boat but sent me a price of $38 sqft for a basic 2 color pattern. I have not measured my boat as it is covered right now, but just rough math at 20 ft by 8 ft wide comes to a little over $6k :ahh:

I've got to say that is at least double of what I would have thought.

That’s actually an awesome pic! I am suprised people are allowed to get so close to them.

It's funny you mention the getting close to them and touching them. The rules in Crystal River are much stricter than if you go down to Homasassa. I asked the guide why that was and he told us that CR is a federally protected area and so are the manatee's. In Homasassa you do anything but chase them. They will come to you if you just lay still on top of the water. Some like being rubbed and will eventually roll over so you can rub their stomachs as well. In CR they didn't want you to touch them and the guide services are required to have a swimmer in the water with your group. Again, I would highly recommend if you haven't done it. My nieces are 17 & 20 (no pics perverts) and absolutley loved it.

Several of the snook we saw were absolute hogs too.

As an avid offshore and inshore fisherman, when a school of 300 snook came under the boat I was dying to find a fishing rod  Never caught one but I will be going back with our boat soon. Hopefully during scalloping season.
My family spent the week of Christmas in Crystal river. We did two seperate excursions to swim with the manatee's. 1 in CR the other just south in Homasassa. If you have never done it I would highly recommend. The experience was far better than I would have imagined.

ETA: I enjoyed the fish watching bas much as the manatee's. Snook, mangroves, sheepshead by the hundreds and mullet that looked to weigh 8 lbs
