When I hit the Everglades or other swampy areas, I just wear my rubber Irish Setter or Dryshod boots and I feel well protected. And since they fit a bit loosely due to my skinny chicken legs, I feel the gap between boot & leg is beneficial. The boot is going to snag fang before it reaches leg. They are heavy and cumbersome though. Out west I’m walking rocky areas a lot, so leather/gore-tex is a bit more comfortable to walk in.

Danner Sharptail boots. I’ve thought about trying Twisted X for my next pair but it’s hard to give up on the Danners
I've got 3 years in mine and wear them year round. I love them. hit them with a beeswax waterproofing once per year

Ole boy I talked to that trapped beavers for the timber companies said, normal Lacrosse uninsulated rubber boots are all you need. We walked up on a cotton mouth and he stuck his foot out and was struck, no issues.
He said, grab a hypodermic needle and see how much pressure it takes to get through the boot. I was amazed at how trusting he was.

Yes, they slip on and off. They have finger holes in the top to help with that. I put some neoprene Velcro straps around my jeans at the ankles to keep them from riding up as well.
