1) you'll feel better about what you have if you earn it
2) treat girls the way you would want your sisters to be treated
3) nothing beats a catalpa worm for catching catfish.

Some damn fine advice in here. Pops used to (and still does) say:

Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better...then do something about it.

Anything worth doing is worth doing right

If you're 10 minutes early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late.

and his favorite:

Don't let the gray hair fool ya

Live you're own life, not the one someone else want's you to live. Pops disagreed with some of my choices but respected me for making them.

Sort of along the lines of you can't serve two masters or you have to choose a side he would say "son, you can't ride two horses with one arse". I have heard that a few times from others but not that common. Awesome if you think about it.

My pop didn't give a lot of advice. You know when he didn't approve, but he kept things to himself pretty much. Maybe it's one reason there is so much of a difference between his 4 children, he allowed us to be who we were.

Never stand around and watch someone else work.

Nut up and get it.

If you are going to do something, do it right, or you'll be fixing it later.

1. Do it right the first time
2. Treat all women with respect
3. Never look down on your fellow man, you have no idea what battles they are fighting

My dad still is work horse and taught us work ethic. He likes to have fun doing it though and is a cut up too. He was also one that valued family and getting along with family.
A couple things he would say

No one ever drown in there own sweat.

A little work wont kill you.

Dont leave mad, makes it harder to come back.

As long as you live under my roof, it's my rules. (usually after getting caught doing something I shouldn't)

I couldn't ask for a better father or grandfather. They had some great advice, but they were even better role models.

Dad:

"Don't worry about the loudmouths. It's the quiet types with nothing to prove that you have to watch out for."

"Son, what you don't know could fill a warehouse."

"Walk it off."

"A leader doesn't push people to do better - he pulls them with him."

Granddad:

"Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut."

"If you have to tell people that you're in charge, then you aren't."

Love your wife with all your heart and let your children see that love poured out through your actions.

And, most importantly, PUSSY RULES!

The only words my Dad ever said about the birds and the bees:

"Son... always remember that the dirt road gets messy sometimes."
