Hoping Thursday I can sneak up for a day trip. Weekend is gonna be out because they only have like 28 tournaments on the schedule the first weekend in March so you know how that is gonna work out. Probably gonna hit the old stomping ground and work on some Kentucky red eyes on the old Sabine Saturday

We don't have any grass up where we are.

Yeah San Miguel is barren of underwater grass
My dad caught a 7 pounder right down from yall's camp last week.

Fished Friday-Sunday. I don't know anything about bass fishing so a handful of fish over the course of the weekend I considered a success. We fished shallow-ish water and were able to get into some sandy bottom grassy areas with nice clear water but didn't see much in the way of cast worthy fish.
Mostly fished intermediate clear fly lines with huge baitfish patterns, that seemed to be the ticket to catching fish. Wasted a whole day throwing a full sink 300g depth charge and floating lines. Best success came in 2-6 ft of water over.
I don't own a scale or ruler but there is a bonefish painted on the gunwale of my skiff that's about 18 inches, we had a few bigger, a few smaller. Nothing big unfortunately. I don't know, maybe three pounds? Three and half tops.
It was cool and by far the most success I've ever had bass fishing.

Barf did yall catch anything besides bass on your fly rigs?

Negative. Most flies that produced were tied on 1/0 or 2/0 hooks. I spent a little time hunting around for some trash fish like carp but that lake is big and my little boat only does about 26 mph. Bass boats would pass us like we were sitting still, it was the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Going to watch the weather and maybe try to during mid week when there aren't a lot of people. Looking for clouds, those bluebird weekends drain you. Fish will move up anytime now. Water temps should start warming this week and set nature into motion.

In talking to my neighbor he seems to think there are some fish that have already done their thing in San Miguel. He said he had a good fish on a bed and the next day she was gone. The pic I included in this thread sure looks like a spawned out fish.

Very possible. The spawn can easily last two or more months on a lake that size.

I don't even like catching bedding fish.
Even if you release?

I saw a bass boat with a tarpon cage on the bow. Is that how they fish for bedded fish?

I saw 2 schools of what looked like baby bass this weekend. With the warm weather I think it's possible some have hatched or at least laid their eggs. Next full moon should be on fire. That's around our vacation. Last year in March the fish started coming in like crazy. We caught 20 in one spot in about 15 minutes.

Probably a bow fishing deck
Or, a beagle or a blue tick box, or maybe a Hot Tamales For Sale box on one of those Zwolle boats?

Alx, you do any good this weekend? I had to go to Tech all day Sat. and didn't get to fish. It's on this coming weekend though.
