The Trijicon is far superior over any plain red dot. It is powered by tritium which has a life span of about ten years before it fades. That ACOG ( advanced combat optic gunsight)is literally bullet proof but you have to send it back to reinstall the tritium. Eotech has come a long way but first came on as a Trijicon knock off.

Definitely want to get a M150CP ACOG for my AR but I also wonder about a .308 BDC version for my Gunsite Scout.

Oh I can't wait until it's in my hands, can't get out & site it in until Friday though.

As already stated, the ACOG is not an apples to apples comparison to non-magnified optics.

The average lifespan of a battery in an Aimpoint site is measured in years. I would say that is pretty effective for a red dot.
Your comment does have merit though. For a sight like my Trijicon RMR, I preferred one powered by the elements in conjunction with tritium versus a battery.
Why? Because the sight has to be dismounted to replace the battery. I did not want to have to rezero the sight after replacing the battery. With an Aimpoint (or EOtech for that matter) a battery can be changed without losing zero.
I understand there are a ton of factors to consider but it's difficult to make a blanket "far superior" statement without being specific. In terms of longer range capability, yes an ACOG is superior. Anything with magnification will be. But what for a red dot is intended (fast acquisition, close range) it is superior to an ACOG.

I have that exact ACOG on one of my AR's. It's fantastic. Purchase and do not look back, you will not regret it.
FWIW I also have an aimpoint on a different rifle. It's great, but there is no comparison when trying to shoot at medium-long range. The 4x magnification on the ACOG makes a world of difference.

The meprolight is even better using that formula. It takes in ambient light and works without a battery. Although some models have a battery as a backup.

Will the fiber optic still gather light & illuminate the reticle if the tritium burns out in 15 yrs
Two part answer:
1- yes the fiber optics will still gather light and illuminate the reticle in daylight conditions.
2-The tritium doesn't "burn out" in 15 years. Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen with a half life of 15 years....meaning that in 15 years there will be half as much tritium remaining as there is today and thus the illumination it provides will be roughly half as bright (but not gone completely)

I got a sig 226 and love it, I use it the most. Have a SA 1911 as well that sits in the safe most days. The H&K's are nice though, I've been itching for something new
The real question is, how many collared/non-collared dogs have you killed with them?
