Amazing how many fishermen dont know this. Also amazing how many have no idea how navigation buoys and bow lights work.

it is an expensive hobby, thus plenty of people are not familiar with what we may consider simple rules (most of which were stated earlier):
-no bananas...you will be asked to leave if you show up with them. if you bring them without the captains knowledge, you should get your a$$ kicked.
-no black soles
-do NOT bother the captain/deckhand on the ride out. This is their time to ease into the day, and consider conditions/where to catch bait/etc.
-have enough beer/food or your group. Do not get into the boat's stash. Really your vendor should have this covered if he is anything like me!!
-don't be that guy that has to be the party animal the night before. you are there to fish, allow yourself to enjoy it!
-have an ice chest to bring home fish. Buying one down there is expensive.
-listen to directions, they are at work. work with the captain/deckhand, and you will have much more fun.
-drink your drinks, but don't be that guy, and get ruined out there. as i said before, not many people get to do this, enjoy the experience.
-never pass the pole. as long as you are not first on the pole, watch, ask, and learn. use your damn legs.
-my $.02

Put some in your buddies boat before he leaves. Do not put in your boat. Bad bad gris gris

I think the superstition started back in the day. Something about bananas in cargo holds of ships having spiders in them, which would spread and infest the ship. Or when boats would sink, the only think found floating around them were bananas.
Those are the ones I've heard at least.

That’s awesome. I’ve always heard all the boat anchors destroyed the reef (I didn’t know there was a reef). I guess enough time has passed that it grew back. Who knows...
Had some great days out there. The best was having YF bust on cut bait off the side of the boat.

. Some some post with what looked like 10-15 boats in the background
Old days would have been 100-150 though.

Not sure if it was the anchors or not but it just seemed to die off from what is was from the late 90s-2005. Was there several times an counted 100 plus boats before Katrina and it seemed like every boat was hooked up, went a few times after that just to check to see if it would produce an never saw a boat or got a bite.
Been out the offshore thing for several years now but may have to book a charter for old times.
And yes hand feeding cut bait to boiling YFs and having a 12YFs all over 100pounds and 15-20 BFs on topwater poppers is the highlight of my fishing memories.

I have had plenty board with cowboy boots and fish all day with me.

My friends are the worst ever about that.
Not that it really matters, the boats kind of old and I'm guilty of getting in there with my (non-marking) boots on to work on it. But shite, dont scuff up my wagon.
