craigslist - search Bay Stealth BR, NOLA, Mobile, Houston, Tampa...takes awhile but you get a good variety of prices.
As far as the Honda, you should be good. The motor I was referring to was a 97' 90 hp carbed 4-stroke...two on the back of a seacat and they gave nothing but problems.
As mentioned, the two new 135s have been wonderful so far.

Is buc the generally accepted source?

It is the best source by far.

Went and looked at the boat and everything looked great with the exception of a few small cosmetic issues. Only other thing that got my attention is that the guy told me the motor doesn't have an hour meter, is that a concern? Also, I understand bay stealth is no longer in business. Should this factor in my decision?
Posted on 6/29/14 at 1:54 pm to TJG210
Outboards rarely have hour meters. So conduct a mechanical survey and compression test.
I don't know the Bay Stealth line. Maybe someone else can help you with that.

I am a former tech. at lafayette power sports, we sold b.s. boats, they recently, went out of business or sold their name. so when all this happened lafayette power sports tried to pawn all the boats of on unexpecting buyers for a "low" price. little did the customer know the extreme poor quality of these boats. i dont like to bash companys but with products as poor as they make and seeing first hand on EVERY bs boat i rigged, serviced, what have you, i wouldnt trust the boat to even float much less preform at high speeds in rough water.

I may see if I can go for a sea trial with it, I'd hate for a couple bad experiences talk me out of this deal. Especially since some of the claims the guy made in the article I didn't find to be true when doing my first inspection.
Posted on 6/30/14 at 8:52 am to TJG210
I'm not trying to talk you out of or into anything. If you truly believe that this is the boat for you then buy it. If not then I promise you that another one will come along. There will always be a "deal of a lifetime." Go in fully informed and don't become so eager or enamored that your judgment is fogged.

Don't forget the trailer. That cost me big time on my last purchase. Especially if brakes are important to you.

My advise has been for years when dealing with a used boat, assume you have to replace the engine in the next two years.
If the purchase price and cost to replace the engine doesn't scare you buy it.

Thanks for the advice.....ended up passing on the deal. Guy wanted over list and was very unwilling to take a more than reasonable offer. No reason to rush a deal, especially since there was no reason for this boat to command a premium. It was a good shape, but had several small issues that I would have liked to have fixed had I bought it. Transducer needed to be replaced, discoloration from not being covered, and a cosmetic gouge.
I told the guy the offer still stands if he changes his mind, but I doubt it.

Sorry to hear that, but it's good you had the gusto to walk away from a deal you didn't feel completely comfortable with.
There are a lot of boats for sale right now. If you aren't in a rush, you might find better pricing if you wait until Nov. - Feb. For some reason, sellers are a little more agreeable on the price in the colder months. Just my experience.
Good luck with the search!

From what you said and I read I think you made the right decision.
I was playing around recently and found a Grady White Tournament 185. I had never heard of the boat before, but I'm not a big powerboat type guy. The boat appeared to me to be very versatile. GW is very well made and of course you can fish with one. However, the 185 also has a bow seating area and a tow rope pylon.
I found one for sale in Holland, Michigan, that had been used fresh water on Lake Michigan. I wanted it, but when I called it had already been sold.
Anyway there are several for sale on the internet all around 20K with trailer.
Again, good luck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.....of course on my way home from work yesterday I was pretty bummed out about the deal falling through. Of course as I'm driving down my street I see a guy polishing up his 22' Pathfinder and putting a For Sale sign on it. Just out of curiosity I stopped to kick the tires, unfortunately the guy is looking for a little bit more than I'm willing to pay at this time.
