Anyone with half a brain saw this coming a mile off. Attract new hunters? Please, give me a break. This was all about greedy bow manufacturers trying to give themselves a new revenue stream...then they sold it to policy makers and hunters as a way to "attract new hunters" and thereby increase liscence sales. Everybody wins! Yay!
Except the only thing it did was give Bubba box stand 3 more months to hunt his food plot and corn feeder. The only good thing to come from this is watching those bow manufacturers eat crow and admit it was a bad idea in the first place.
Bad part is now the cats out of the bag and we will likely never go back to the way it was...especially in LA where it takes an act of congress to change anything related to hunting or fishing regulations.

I know that it isn't pulling in a ton of new hunters but to act like it never happens is also ridiculous. I have 3 hunters that have borrowed my crossbow in the last couple of years take their first deer with a compound this season. My sons first archery deer will be with a crossbow, that being said he is already asking how big he has to be before he can have a compound.

None. It's bringing in none. Big picture wise. It will drive some existing license buyers away, when seasons are shortened further, limits are decreased, tags are harder and harder to come by.

It is not going to recruit "new hunters" here in the south when the gun season is 3 months long.

It's more likely to work in the midwest where they have gun seasons of 1 or 2 weeks and that isn't even rifle sometimes

I know several people that hunt more throughout the year because they can hunt with a crossbow. That equates to more sells at stores and other businesses. It may not be more license sales but it is an economy boost. Compound or crossbow... if you hunt public land, you have to put in the same amount of work to be successful. Bubba gets to hunt 3 months longer over his corn. So what. Just means he going to spread out killing his deer instead of stacking them up during gun season.

Everyone who is against crossbows for saying it’s too easy should definitely be against the “primitive season” we have now.

100% agree with you on that one, but that's an entire new can of worms lol

It’s not really rocket science

She is too small to shoot a rifle with a caliber that could kill a deer ethically

Too small to pull back a bow that could kill a deer ethically and per law

But wanted to hunt a shoot a deer with her daddy. Crossbow gave her that opportunity.

Sorry you are dumb.

Lots of bow snobs up in here. I hunt with crossbow, compound, rifle and shotgun. May even take up black powder and pistol.

I love the outdoors and the variety and it's about the sport more than the killing. I'm not even a trophy hunter. Let people enjoy the woods as long as they do it ethically and responsibly.

I'm not sure which law I'd rather change in Louisiana, crossbows or primitive weapon.

Primitive weapon change has made much more of a dent in population than allowing crossbows.

Yall are acting like the deer populations in the US are in trouble and more days for people to hunt are a problem.

The same guy that's going to kill 6 deer a year is going to weather its just in rifle are spread out over archery and primitive. Dead deer are dead deer no matter what weapon you use.

Why do yall care so much how other guys hunt?

Do you really think that a cross bow hunter is shooting "your" deer?

Who cares. Let people hunt with what they want to hunt with.

My sentiments exactly. All devices that propel a projectile to game.

Period.

Still hunters hating on dog hunters.
Bow hunters hating on still hunters.
Private land hunters looking down on public land hunters.

Meanwhile the anti’s are smiling.

I don’t even own a crossbow, but it seems like the ultimate weapon to use in a more rural area where a .243 might be dangerous.

Just kidding about the .243, us real hunters know it won’t kill a deer.

My thoughts exactly. If they hunt more throughout year, better to help local businesses.

As long as it's legal I don't care. That doesn't mean I have to agree that it is the best thing for whitetail management in Louisiana. The area I hunt the deer population is definitely down, and I think it has a lot to do with the liberal limits and overall lack of management minded hunters. I am glad that LDWF did change the harvest limits.

In our zone we get a 2 day regular gun and 3 day Christmas gun hunt. 2 of the 3 would hunt the 2 day and be done, killing a deer every 3 or 4 years. One actually got his wife started shooting a compound this year and has she has been deer hunting for the first time. All 4 mentioned are teachers, people who directly influence kids. I'm working on starting an archery team at our school. Without one old crossbow none of us would have started archery hunting.

My son will hopefully kill his first archery with a crossbow this year, and he is already asking when he is going to be big enough to start with a compound.
