My go to rifle for all big game hunting is a 300 Weatherby Magnum. Coyotes, Hogs, Deer, Bear... lots of critters have fell to him..

Then I picked this guy up in the Spring..

The Weatherby Custom Shop put together a left handed Mark V Euromark in 416 Weatherby Magnum for me. The gun features a high grade walnut stock with ebony end caps and a diamond inlay in the butt cap. The shop added iron sites, a demascened bolt and follower, plus additional checkering on the bolt knob. I topped the gun with a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5 x 20 mm scope with a German #4 Recticle. The scope is mounted with a Talley QD mounting system.

The factory group with 350 grain Barnes solids measured sub-MOA at 100 yds. All this plus generating 6,500 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle!

.308 win 150 grain Remington Corelockt, plenty of power good accuracy.

This.....I've found the Core-Lokts out perform the Hornady SST's but it just may be my confidence level in them.

Fired many out of M134 into the mountain side or a barrels and shot up cars... from left side door gun position of Mike's huey...

Also flew his Heuy and Little Bird...

I qualified the Dillion Breech Bolt assembly for world-wide-use in the mini-gun!

Damn that sounds like fun.

Spent much time firing off of helicopters...

Fired everything on H60... M2, GAU-19, GAU-2, MK-19...

Fired GAU-2 and M2(GAU-18) off H53.

Fired twin M2's off of T-6 Texan..

Fired 20mm off of F-15 eagle...

Fired 20mm off of F-16 Falcon...

Fired M198 155mm Howitzer...

Fired quad 30mm at banner towed from soviet anti-aircraft vehicle.

Fired 30mm gun pod of Navy Hovercraft LCAC...

List goes on.... Mostly st5atic firings but still impressive...

Fired over a million rounds of ammo in a 12 year period.....

but the most memorable time was actually flying Dillon Huey in AZ and his Little bird at night from desert to Scottsdale...

saw intruders drop real bombs... saw corsairs fire rockets.. and... one of the rare pair of eyeballs to watch a tomcat win a dogfight.....

I mostly duck hunt and the only rifles I own are a .22lr a 30-30 and a SKS (which is fun for hogs!)

Been contemplating getting more of a deer round...thinking either .308 or 7mm-08 or .25-06

Saw a few people on this thread talk about the .308 or 7mm-08? Thoughts?

I have one in a Remington Model 7, its a great gun and a great cartridge. I've killed deer, hog, and bear with it. You'll sacrifice a little performance, but I'd steer clear of the ballistic tip type bullets if your hunting hogs with it. I hit a good boar with the SST round a few years ago with a close range quartering away shot and rolled him. He got right up and hauled arse. I finally caught up to him nearly a mile away. The bullet didnt penetrate all the way through and fragmented in the opposite shoulder. The small entry wound with no exit made blood trailing a bit difficult. After talking to some other hunters that experienced similar situations, I switched over to a conventional bullet and problem solved.

I don't often hunt with a gun, but when I do, I prefer a .243 winchester.

Was using a 300wsm 150grain ballistic tips with good results. Have two boys, i bought each of the 7mm-08's a few years ago and they never lost a deer so i bought my self one last year and had very good results.

Federal 140 ballistic tips.

If they(or me) forget shells we all shoot the same.

i'm surprised there are not more fans of the short mag rounds. my tikka .270 wsm was a tack driver out of the box. it is really impressive w/ reloads.

Good to see someone else has a 6mm. Not as easy to find ammo for as the .243 but a little more umph.
