Elusive,
You must have a camp down there. Most of the guys hunting that area are in the camps near there.

I was staying at a camp when we hunted that area. Boy that was nice not to wake up in a tent!

what were they hypothetically using to bait with, if in fact somebody was in fact actually baiting.

For research purposes...

I'll let LSUengr answer that as I was only a spectator for a short period of time down there.

Can't answer that specifically because we stay out of there. It's more about how the same habitat around it doesn't hold the same concentration of ducks but that spot magically does. They may have planted grasses that somehow survived the saltwater from the last hurricane that killed everything else around there. I have never seen any baiting with my own eyes, it's all hearsay.

Oklahoma and North Texas is where the largest concentration of Ducks are. Been getting videos from friend in both areas. Millions of ducks. Black the sky type videos. Its insane. One group of friends in Oklahoma have been there for about 11 days and there camp has killed almost 1000 ducks. Same in North Texas. posted a FB video of more than 20 thousand ducks landing after they finished there limit New Years eve morning.

The area I was in, there shouldn't be any traffic. It was in a medium size pond. 3" deep with the hard north wind that was blowing. Although there was conveniently a boat on the private side that would run a few laps every now and then.

They run duck boats in this particular spot that Elusive is referencing. Can't answer to the difference in the rate of traffic. Not at that spot enough to see the difference.

Had some friends in Oklahoma the week between Christmas and New Years. Same results as you are talking about. May be the same crew. This crew had 18 guys and 1 girl.
