Step 1: Roll the gun boat into the capitol on a trailer.
Step 2: Blast 3 vegans
Step 3: Watch the hipsters scatter

I checked a few message boards and Yellowfin seems to be the answer.
Without a doubt one of the best boats made. With that being said, you'd think they would have gone with something a little less expensive and a little more custom. I'm surprised they didn't sign a contract with Rock Salt, they're aluminum and manufactured in TX.

Question? Why does the Texas Highway Patrol boat's trailer have mud tires? That is a lot of added friction with no added bonus. It seems that a wide highway tire would be suited to keep the trailer from sinking into sand and mud. Also, it's not like that boat can be unloaded on the side of the road. A boat launch seems necessary.
Sorry for my ignorance when it comes to boats, I am a hunter. Also, please forgive grammar and spelling mistakes, posted from iPhone.

Doesn't make any sense to me either. The side walls on those tires will probably prevent blowouts, but a wide run-flat tire would accomplish the same thing and provide more control while towing the boat. I guess it's just for aesthetics

Looks like Texas watched Sons of Guns and wanted to keep up with Baton Rouge...
ETA, Where will they put the prisoners? In the fish box or just shoot them and leave them...

Aesthetics is what I am thinking. But they are giving up a lot of functionality by that route. A mud tire in that size is probably only D rated, maybe E.
There are plenty of E rated tires with a much more reasonable tread for a fraction of the price. Not to mention, they would handle much better.
It's a small thing but it's bothering me.

Judging by the tread pattern those are BFG KM2's. I had a set, they're tough as hell and an awesome tire. Regardless, I see no reason to put them on a trailer
ETA: I looked at some other pictures and the trailer tires were not KM2's, (unless they have more than one boat/trailer with different tires). In the other pics they looked like Cooper Discoverer STT's.

I agree. Why not just put some PBR's back into service. I believe they were 28' and powered by water jets

How difficult is it to turn a 34' boat around in the Rio Grande?
Posted on 3/1/12 at 12:49 pm to Slickback
Kind of a hijack, but you know if this was opened up to the public they could probably get enough donations to start a Texas State Navy, and volunteers to boot.
ETA: Who the hell am I kidding, they could sell tickets on these boats and make a profit.

They have volunteers that make their own patrols on local ranches, etc.

I drove to El Passo last year and all the rivers that I passed were names that I had heard since childhoodd; they were nothing more than creek beds a 12' john boat would have made me feel safe...

That would be super badass! Maybe I could get one, and kill every duck in the sky with it!

Not sure I would want to patrol in the Rio Grande in that. I would sure patrol the big rigs offshore with it though. You know, making sure the boys on the platforms aren't taking the pot, etc. I would also make sure that no illegal Mexican Tuna made it across.

Reminds me of the LA wildlife and fisheries boat at Venice marina with 4 - mercury 300's. Never could I see a need for such a thing.
