You guys who are buying 2500's or 250/350's, are you farmers or something? Does anyone buy a 250 as a personal vehicle?

Hauls a lot of groceries

Probably hauling 22'+ boats, 5th wheel campers, or large trailers frequently.

Big, quiet vehicle. Great for long trips with four people.
Will pull anything, quickly and without drama. Plus, larger brakes.

That would be the ticket.
The 2017 has LED headlights and numerous cool features that the GM doesn't have.

You know my brand bias, but if it were me shopping for a diesel 2500 I'd be hard pressed to pass up a GMC/Chevy 2500 in higher trim. Both the Denali and High Country are sweet rigs, and the powertrain is solid. I do love my Rams...but the current body style is getting dated (despite the fact I just bought a new one in August

My concern with the GM is rattles and interi trim bits coming loose down the road.
No argument about the power train; it's as strong as acid.
Did you see my Ford thread?

Not a farmer but I pull hay trailers several times a year, tractor and three horse goose neck often. Stock trlr occasionally. 3/4 or 1 ton is a necessity.

Supposed to be ready Friday.
Sending It to Ford for a teardown.

It'll be like driving a time bomb.

Most people who buy diesels could easily get by with a half ton gas burners. Plenty would never even put those in a bind.
The diesels these days are good. I couldn't buy a Chevy diesel just because of the urea tank hanging down behind the passenger side wheel well. Who the hell decided that was the best place to put it????????
I'd get a dodge if I was buying a new one. Cummins had the 6.7 figured out a long time ago and the aisin transmission is very good. Chevy would be second because the drivetrain is great, but I hate the IFS and urea tank horrible location. Ford would be last, because I wouldn't trust that engine as far as I could throw it past 150kmiles.

I understand wanting the fastest or most powerful engine available, but there a practical reason you bought a Powerstroke over the gas engine? I'm assuming you know the history of catastrophic problems Powerstroke owners have dealt with in the past 10-12 years.
I mean, you are looking at $8,000-$9,000 upcharge for the diesel....and if you are lucky, it will be under warranty when it grenades. If not, you have a repair bill larger than the cost of a very decent compact car.

I talked to a guy last week in Gulf Shores that owned a diesel repair shop in Midland, TX. He said he had 17 bays and his average repair bill was 5k per vehicle.
He was telling me this at his vacation home after changing the oil in his airplane.

I wanted to pay cash for mine, and wanted a CC with a 6.75ft bed. I have a big toolbox that doesn't fit in most 1/2 ton trucks, and the ones it does, I end up with a 4ft long bed. Only option meeting those was a 2500
As a bonus, I got the 6.0/4L80e and the rest of the 2500HD drivetrain. I load it up too heavy a couple of times a year, and pull close to the max the same. The weight, brakes, and suspension of a 3/4 ton truck help with that
