We have 3 Goldendoodles on the Halo collars. It works almost perfectly. To those that say the shock isn’t strong enough, there are varying size studs that screw into the collar. I have had to play with that a little depending on which collar of my 3 dogs.
The almost perfect is that it’s off WiFi. So we found that one part of the yard had some lagging in responsiveness and put a WiFi extender on the house in that area and problem solved.
We have had to play with the boundaries until we had them like we wanted, but it didn’t take long and all three rarely test it. Unless some Canadian geese get too close then they may take a shock or two chasing them out.

We have 2.5 acres and I did the wired petsafe system. I bought a thicker wire and did about 1.5 acres worth of our yard. I dug the trench using a manual edger I bought at Lowes for $15 - looks sort of like a shovel. I buried the wire about 1-2 inches deep. It took about 3 hours. It has an adjustable range for when they receive a warning and a shock. With the exception of the one time my son accidentally cut the wire while splitting wood (total fluke) it has worked really well.
It has adjustable shock settings. I think the default is 2 and it is a light little buzz. 3 and 4 have more pop to them. We have a mutt and a golden retriever and keep our settings on 3. I've felt the 3 setting and its a decent little thump.

I got the SpotOn collar after a recommendation from a friend of mine. I’ve had it for 2 months now for my pup and I am happy with it so far. They’re on their second generation of collar which is supposed to be a bit more robust than the last. I did have an instance where it starting beeping indoors but they now have a feature that allows you to designate indoor areas on the map so that it won’t do that. If you take it off of forest mode, it’s supposed to detect when the pet is indoors, but I haven’t taken it off of forest mode.
After pricing out what I needed for 6 acres, the price of the SpotOn wasn’t much different from what it would cost me to wire one. If I had to get a collar for my other dog, it would cost significantly more, but luckily he stays in bounds on his own. I also like the idea that I can sell the collar if I end up not liking or needing it. It’s also nice that I can set a boundary at the camp or anywhere else, because you don’t train the dog on the boundary, you train him on the alert tones of the collar.

I’ll second the SpotOn. Been having it about 6 months with no complains. Spent a few minutes for two days training on the boundaries and he really hasn’t tested it at all.Has an audible, vibration, then electric correction depending on the distance to the boundary. I actually removed the studs now that I feel comfortable with him respecting the boundary. One caveat, with the GPS, the boundaries can drift up to 10 feet so I wouldn’t mark the boundary close to somewhere the dog will hang out. But with 3 acres, it shouldn’t be a big issues for you.
