What’s the reasoning behind the squirrel dogs? Never heard of that

When a group of squirrel hunters with dogs are in the area, it will cover the human scent and noise in the area. it will put them almost at ease because once the figure out that the scent and noise is due to other activities, they will loosen up. Also squirrels will feed on the best acorns, so will deer, neither species will touch any that start to sour.

Never even thought about that, but it is genius. Thank you

Also most hunters will be apologetic if treated with respect and can even shed light on fresh sign in the area. It helps you learn the woods faster.

No deer hunting on Elbow Slough. And its only 160 acres, if you walked 3/4 of a mile you were.on Priiiiiiiiiiiiivate property. Not good

However there are NO woodcock on any WMA's in LA.
I thought Sherburne/Atchafalaya NWR were woodcock Meccas. I know the Ruffed Grouse Society has done a lot of work on those facilities.

You are correct. If you walk as far as you can from the parking area to the most far corner, it is a touch over a half mile. According to onX anyway.
The good news is he didn’t illegally take game on State land.
To the op, read the pamphlet of any area you plan to hunt. There are some odd rules at times regarding days to hunt.
As a kid we got in trouble hunting for ducks on a WMA during doe days when the area was closed to all other activity.
