Did you see the FB thread in the oak forest homeowners page? Talk about virtue signaling.

I have friends who live right behind Tony’s so I’d imagine they aren’t going to like this either.

Had an old hippie Quaker get in my face talking about we changed the neighboorhood and forced poor people out.

The irony, they are trying to kick out an old Hispanic lady who had lived in a small house on 26th forever. We brought that up and shite got quiet.

Anecdote Andy Developers swooping in to virtue signal had n asnwers.

frick they can't even speak to mitigating flooding and the impact this monstrosity will have on traffic in an already pretty crowded area.

Complete fricking morons the lot of em. Groveling for government cheese as they import desirables to frick up our nice, safe neighborhood.

No -- I only found about this meeting on Monday when my neighbor told me.

We have $300k - $700K townhomes in the area and they want to bring in subsidized renters with $300/mo? GTFO.

The CEO is nothing but a coward.

I asked if he could tell me where rent controls has ever successfully worked and he just shook his head and said no.

This is nothing but an attempt as social engineering.

ETA: the company is called ITEX Group, LINK. Spam the frick out of them and tell them to frick off.

Nothing has been approved yet but it goes to the City Council next week for a vote.

There is a ton of affordable housing in every direction away from Shady Acres. There is no “need” for there to be affordable housing in that spot. I’m a little further south in Timbergrove but that thread made my blood boil.

Yea, I lived in Lazybrook before buying in 2018.

I'm sorry the barista has to commute 30 minutes to work but guess what sweetheart so do I. I also get up every morning at 6 am to go to work. I'm not crying about it. It is my choice.

We all have to make sacrifices. It's called life.

I want a nice house in River Oaks but I also realize that is not attainable.

I worked and saved for 7 years to get my place in Shady Acres. It angers me that the neighborhood could be completely nuked in short order.

Damn, Buckley. I know you just want to argue but you plant your flag on this self-loathing, transparent tripe?

Preach. I’m in the same boat, just 7 years behind you as I just moved here and got licensed. I plan on buying in this area and don’t want to see section 8 invaders trashing up the neighborhood.

And the dumbest thing about the “muh we need workers take” is that there are affordable neighborhoods in every direction of Shady Acres that are within a 10-20 minute drive. Spring Branch, Independence Heights, all of the area west of TC Jester/Antoine, etc.

Yea. It’s a frustrating development but I hope we can fight the power.

I believe only a few of threes projects get approved a year. Let’s hope we aren’t one this year.

Property crime is already bad enough from outside pieces of shite. No need to make their work easier.

It comes from a worldview of cultural appropriation. Instead of saying “we took all of these things we mash them together and we created Scandinavian culture. it’s wonderful we should keep adding to it with new things to add to Scandinavian culture.”

Instead it’s all about how “Scandinavian culture doesn’t really exist, it’s just this collection of meaningless things which have no history and nothing to do with us. No bring back more stuff that has nothing to do with us.”

It’s an ad for Scandinavians who hate the idea of Scandinavia.

Agreed. Let's not destroy a perfectly good neighborhood that is experiencing overcrowding already.

I got an email saying the area has been designated for redevelopment for a while with "subsidized housing as a component".

Not looking too good as of now.

Ridiculous. There are plenty of affordable complexes within 10 minutes of Shady Acres.

Yea. Apparently the elementary and high school we are zoned to are overcrowded. Not sure how that affects this development but doesn't seem to make sense to pack more people in the already crowded neighborhood.

Good to see someone who has sane values in the area. Read that FB thread early this morning and thought I lived in Austin.

We are mobilizing as a neighborhood. Planning to start a change.org petition next. Area businesses are flooding with calls of support. Going to keep fighting. I'll send the link when the petition gets started.
