If you have ever been around a story you know and then watched media cover it they never get the nuances correct.

When I was 20, I was a leftist Democrat and was all for Socialism too. What happened? Reality! Once you get out of college, get a real job, pay taxes, get married, have kids, your values change. At 63, I am now 'almost' totally conservative, HUGE Trump supporter. The funny thing is, people see me and can't believe I am conservative, because I have very long hair, still look the radical part, but looks can be deceiving...

Most republicans are progressives as well. Both parties are progressive. At least in the original context of what a progressive is.
