It’s likely it was just an easy and obvious identifier so the wait staff wouldn’t be confused about where the receipts were going. I bet a bunch of other receipts from that day had similar descriptors.

Those two races don’t get along whatsoever. My secretary/office manager was Hispanic and she always said the Hispanic’s don’t like African Americans

Negro could be used lovingly for a darker skinned person doesn't have to be black.
Negro could also be used to insult black people.
It is all how you vocalize it and your facial expressions and so on when you do it

I went to a Mexican place about a week ago here in Metairie. Our server had no idea what was going on and seemed to not even understand how a restaurant worker and likely never had been in a restaurant before. I'm guessing this was the case and I thought of that server when I read this article.
