Um, black folk and Mexicans have hated each other for a LOOOOOOOONG time.

I wish I had bookmarked, but a couple of years ago I read a survey.
It asked Blacks, Whites, Latinos and Asians a series of questions.
One of those questions was "Which Ethnic group of the four surveyed is the most racist".
On none of them did Whitey place first.
Black people placed first 3 times.

And fwiw, negros is Spanish for blacks. If the worker is a recent immigrant to the USA it's a totally innocent faux pas. Los Negros is standard parlance for blacks in Central and South America
