We have a bunch of chucklefricks who will vote for Ivey based on name recognition and her folksy commercials, literally all of which contain NOTHING about policy. Good Lord.
Alabama voters love re-electing incumbents as much as they love College Football. Which is funny considering how anti-government everyone here supposedly is.
The ads here are ridiculous. I know they work but it still pains me because it is the worst form of pandering. All the ads are combination of Guns, Bibles, and anti-liberals. I don't have a problem with any of those stances but you catch my drift. They have become caricatures. President Obama was the best thing to ever happen to the ALGOP. You would've thought Twinkle Cavanaugh was running against him for Public Service Commission in 2014.
I've said this before, I just hate this current cycle where all a GOP candidate for statewide office has to do is win a primary and they are guaranteed 8 years in office when they have a leg up on the next office because of name recognition. They end up just snaking their way up the ladder with no accomplishments or accountability. It's led to the shitty government that we have. Of course the lazy electorate is just as responsible as the politicians. BTW, I'm not clamoring for Democrats to win.

It also runs decent Republicans like Dick Brewbaker out of office because he gets so disgusted by it all.

You do realize that if Ivey is the Republican nominee, then Alabama will have a Democrat as Governor. Walt Maddox will torch her with this information. Mark it down.

I don't see Walt going after her sexuality, but maybe I'm wrong. I certainly didn't expect Todd to, so I was wrong there.

The left will use any means necessary to turn the Governorship Dem.

I laughed at the thought of Jones actually winning, so I'm in the same boat. That seems like a big stretch, though.
Even anti-homosexual folks are less bothered by lesbians than by gay dudes.

Exposing a liar as a closeted Lesbian isn't really going after someone. It is simply telling the truth. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't believe that. He might make it close and I agree that she is probably more vulnerable in the General Election than people think, but she's still a big favorite. Walt's not going to torch her unless something concrete comes out about her being gay. Walt has to be careful using that because he can't afford to piss off his base. She's got a big political machine behind her and isn't a boogeyman that will force Dem voters to turnout. A Democrat has to pull an inside straight to win a statewide election. Jones was lucky that the allegations happened against Moore, who always underperformed in the General Election.

Some on the left certainly will. I've known Walt and his family for years though, and I just don't see him going down that road. He's never really been a mudslinging candidate either.

Maddox is certainly going to be the Dem nominee, yes? The only folks I know that are in the AL Dem apparatus aren't, uh, close friends willing to disclose expected results.

I find that hard to believe. Seems like he would be alienating a portion of the electorate that would vote for him in order to garner votes against her. that looks like a fruitless plan to me.

I finally understand what you mean about Alabama voters being notorious for choosing candidates based on personality, rather than policy.

She won't when Dawson starts pitting her against staunch social conservatives (evangelicals).

Seems pretty low for a elected lesbian official (Patricia Todd) to be spreading rumors like that. If you are lgbt, you don’t spread rumors about someone else’s sexual orientation.
The left has been schizophrenic on this forever.

Pat Todd is damn sure a lesbo

I think he's the likely winner, yes. But I don't have any inside info. Sue Bell Cobb is really his only competition, and a lot of Dems resent her for resigning her position on the State Supreme Court a few years ago.

I'm a part-time resident of Tuscaloosa - other than the egregious parking/driving situation, I don't have many criticisms of the municipal government. I assume you support Maddox - can you tell me his planks? I've not seen any of his ads, so I essentially only know what he's about by proxy.

Spot on.
Every ad, no matter the GOP candidate, and no matter the position they are running for, mentions the following:
- Pro gun
- Conservative Christian
- Family
- Bible
- Trump
Barely any policy ever makes ads.
Don't feed me a mountain oyster and tell me it's seafood!

I do.

He wants to revive the education lottery debate, which is probably the one position I'm not fully onboard with. He wants to address rural healthcare, which would include expanding Medicaid. He wants improve workforce training and opportunities, especially in the rural areas. Improve infrastructure.
It's basically an old school Dem platform of re-invigorating the state from the bottom up.
