You've got every advantage a major party can ask for, but nothing to show for it.
Kind of like how the Republicans had 8 years to put together a plan to repeal Obamacare and still can't get their shite together, despite having majorities in the House and Senate.

It's pretty pathetic how without even having to work for it Democrats start every election with 90% of the votes from 13% of the population and 75% of 18% of the population and they can't win elections.

This thread is about the Dems' failure to win elections the past 40 years despite numerous societal advantages. Please stay on topic.
(FWIW I agree that the GOP has been a mess when they've had power)

Democrat party strongholds, by and large, are where people live in antpiles. NYC, for example, is an antpile.
Celebrants of their own diversity to the point of smugness without realizing how lacking in true diversity they really are. One neighborhood in one of these antpiles may have every skin tone imaginable but like a bowl of Skittles, they all live in the same bowl and share nearly all the same day to day experiences.
Now consider the inhabitants of the hinterlands. How similar of life experiences do you think a boat captain of French/Italian blood and Roman Catholic upbringing in South Louisiana and a Dutch/German, Lutheran sugarbeet farmer in North Dakota have?
They are more different than the inhabitants of any Democrat antpile and yet they get excoriated and demonized by pundits from the left for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
In the case of 2016, enough of us got sick of hearing it and and DJT was our middle finger.

Not necessarily. Uneducated whites have drastically moved away from the Democratic party. Latino turnout is still a myth at this point.
I'm talking about demographic trends among the population. Non-whites have voted reliably Democrat for many decades; 40 years ago the US was 16% non-white; that number is about 30% today. This trend is a major mathematical advantage for the Dems.

One of those self selecting things. The strongest indicator in today's society of political affiliation is education level. It is rare for someone in media not to have a college education.
That's part of it, but regardless of the reason, it's an advantage for the Dems.
quote:
Not all that relevant. Those on the left weren't all that into sports to begin with.
The point is, it's an advantage. It's another outlet the Dems have to disseminate their message/point of view to the masses.
quote:
Some yes. Others no. Totally depends. Its not like SNL, Trevor Noah, etc. are pretending to hide their views.
Colbert, Kimmel, SNL, Noah, etc. are certainly not hiding their views and I didn't suggest they are. TV/Hollywood gives the Democrats yet another pipeline into the American living room. Again, advantage Dems here.
quote:
As bluegrass noted, this can be attributed to geography. Certainly, the GOP has won some seats that aren't traditionally red. But, same goes for Dems in places like Louisiana right now.
Goes back and forth. Less than a decade ago, they held a filibuster proof majority. Just so happens they lost alot when Obama was in office.
Gerrymandering is a crazy thing. In addition to geography, this amplifies the impact of state legislatures/GOP governorships.
I'd like to get your reaction to this:
Since 1977
Governorships: Dems had 37, now have 15
House seats: Dems had 292, now have 194
Senate seats: Dems had 61, now have 46
I don't think you can explain that many losses with geography.
And remember, all of these losses have occurred with demographic tailwinds and media control.
Is it the ideology?

I'm registered as an independent, but from my view the dems problem was that Obama was the "hope and change" guy, but that didn't work so well at the grass roots level. Plus he wasn't too interested in state politics, which he more or less ignored for 8 years.
Lastly, he energized the repubs to work against him and his party.

We haven’t changed the demographic landscape enough yet to make it so there isn’t enough white people to beat an anti-white platform. That’s why we need amnesty for illegals, open borders, the importation of refugee masses, the discouragement of white people from having children (unless they are mixed), and the encouragement of minorities to reproduce. At some point, it will be demographically impossible for republicans to ever win again. We thought we were already there with Hillary, but we predicted America’s demise just a hair too soon.
