I would say 5 or less.
Rifles are bolt action.
Shotguns have to be limited to 3 shells.
You can do all of the hunting you need to within these confines.
Just a recommendation.

Your laws would not defend a mass school shooting. Easy to hide under coat four sawed off 3 shot buck shot shotguns which kills in a wide cone and kills more than one with one shot. Then three single action revolvers 18 .45 cal kill shots. You are pro over sixty dead school children. No guards armed or teachers right.

If the killers in Australia had access to the same weapons we have access to the death toll would have been much higher. They were using bolt action rifles…imagine if the they had a semiautomatic rifle that held 50+rounds

Not sure what you mean by dangerous game, but if 5 shots can’t protect you then you probably shouldn’t be out there.
This keeps mass shooters from being able to brazenly attack harmless bystanders. If the weapons they get their hands on have limited capacity, that degrades their impact.
Start with the clips. For example, anything with more than 5 bullets is illegal and can’t be manufactured. Existing ones must be turned in to be destroyed.
A peaceful society is a compromise in every respect.

Would be a damn shame if 5 criminals entered your home with the intent to do you harm, and all you had to protect yourself was a shotgun with 3 shells. This shotgun was of course locked in a gun safe with the shells being kept in a different room for safety.

Against thick skinned dangerous game, good chance you'll need more than 5.
Happens frequently with backup handguns and bears. You can thank the govt for letting you die after youve expended 5 and the bear is still eating you
