It's customary to tip waitstaff (at sit down restaurants) 15-20% for good service. Please take note of this and spread the word amongst your Indian brethren about our customs in that regard. Thanks
Come on now, Indians take pride in their cheapness. If you think I can change that habit, you are one of the most optimistic person I have met online.
Yes, I am very aware of Indian people not tipping well and not treating service sector workers well. I wish this was different.
Not trying to justify it, but if you want to read a serious explanation of one possible reason, read the book - Games Indians Play: Why we are the way we are by V Raghunathan. Explained the Indian cheapness, and lack of civic sense well.

Tell me more about the board opinion of Indians only hiring from their Indian tribe. Is this a real thing, and if so how systematic is it?
Yes, it is real. Especially in bigger cities like Bay Area, NY/NJ, Houston, Dallas etc.
I my opinion it is more their state from which they came from. Couple of things related to this:
1) Every state in India has its own language, culture, food etc. Even, the religion, Hinduism has different ways in which it is practiced. I literally would not understand anything I drive over to one state over in India.
2) Most people who are moving to USA from India are the privileged upper caste people.
3) Everyone is trying to help people from their state ... it is classic tribalism.
4) Same thing happens in India. People promoting others from their own state.
Again, not defending it.

Congrats and thank you for doing it the right way.
Now, never vote for a damn Democrat and you’ll be a great American.

If you are an Indian business owner in Alabama, you going to hire an Indian guy to manage your business or an illegal immigrant or black southerner?
You are hiring the Indian guy married to your cousin.
You are actually hiring the Indian illegal immigrant or the Indian MS student from the nearby university who is working illegally completely violating the terms of their F1 visa.

Watch out, you're now a candidate to be replaced by an H1B from TCS or Cognizant, etc. The Indian conglomerate I work for now holds regular meetings to every employee in the city on how to avoid answering questions from DHS if they show up for an inspection. But congrats anyway!
I am a university professor. I teach CS. I am more worried about AI replacing the work of the average CS majors we are currently graduating. I think in short term, 3-4 really good CS graduates will be able to complete the work that currently 10-11 graduates are doing. Lower enrollment in our classes is what I worry about, not offshoring, as far as my day job is concerned.
Funny story, when I finished my undergrads in India, I had an offer from TCS as a software developer. I decided to come to LSU for my MS and PhD. I a times wonder what life would have been if I decided not to take the LSU offer and start working in India instead.

As a reward for doing it the right way, you should get to ride shotgun in on of the prison buses when they take the illegals get it onto the tarmac to be loaded on planes for CECOT and yell at the criminals the whole way to the airport.
Nah, I am good. I am too brown and don't want to risk someone making a mistake and putting me in CECOT as well.

From what I've directly observed, a lot of it mostly stems from the fact that Indians know how badly they can exploit the Indian H1Bs. The H1Bs pretty much have to work whatever hours the Indian (non H1B) client wants, under whatever conditions. Which is why I sat in an empty office (except for the H1Bs, I was the only American) on Good Friday, the Monday after Easter, the two weeks around Christmas and New Years, while the Indian boss was "working" remote.
This is very true.
The worst offenders are actually the small Indian IT consultancies which are notorious for making their employees fake their resume so that they can be placed at a client site.
While there are shady things that happen at TCS/CTS (WITCH companies, look it up if you don't know what it is), it pales in comparison to what happens in these small Indian owned IT consultancies (I am talking about sexual harassment, employees actually having to pay back some of their salary under the table so that they can continue to be be on the payroll for visa purposes etc).

When were you eligible to get a SSN?
I think people are confused when non-citizens get SSN’s.
When I joined LSU in 2003, I was a RA/TA. So I got my SSN immediately.
LSU actually arranged for a CATS bus to take all the international RA/TAs to the SSA office from the student union so that everyone can get their SSNs. LSU international student office was very well run, at least back then.

Just curious, what was your answer?
Seeking religious freedom.
Here is the actual study guide USCIS publishes with the correct answers.
