Funding groups to sow division. Profiting off division.

If said congressmen has the same resume of atrocities associated to him I can assure you I will be consistent. Not sure if you are directly or indirectly overlooking this enormous asterisk to the person in question. Political affiliation has little to do with my position. Certainly not 0%, but far from 100% as well.

For something he was forced to do once when he was a kid? Dunno man this is a hard one.

Any reasonable person who reads about what Soros did as a kid in detail will come away with the impression that it was a complex time when people like him and his family were trying to survive, and that there is no real evidence that he understood the mechanisms or significance of what he was involved in.

But I think it's completely reasonable to look at his later interviews and be convinced that he is a completely amoral human being

Watch the linked interview. Soros himself says that he understood what was happening. He laughs about it.

I’d have a hard time thinking someone who gives away a substantial portion of their fortune for philanthropy and one of the world’s biggest proponents of liberal democracyto be an immoral person.

What’s your problem with him?

I've seen the entire interview multiple times, not just the Dinesh D'Souza clips.

Even in your clip, he specifically says as a child you don't really make the connection.

It's an unnecessary reach to try and vilify him as a 14 year old in the Holocaust when you can just vilify the shitbag he is now.

I'm going to guess we have very different views of what "liberal democracy" mean

You call it philanthropy. A lot of countries call it taking short positions. He invests in positions which devalue the economy in which he's investing. It's why Soros is banned from several countries, if not an outright wanted man.

Stanley Druckenmiller? Black Wednesday? Bank of England?

How about we just call it the opposite of the Orban/Putin illiberal democracy that fascinates so many on the Right today?

Importing third world immigrants to invoke mob rule is not what the founders envisioned. Sorry.

Back to the OP: I wish no ill will on the man and hope he finds a way to use his fortunes for good and peace instead of sowing discontent.

Soros is a devoted deconstructionist. Putin and Viktor Orban are reactionists seeking to fortify their countries against what Soros and others are attempting to accomplish.

One side seeks to undermine borders, traditional rules of law, traditional notions of what constitutes liberty, etc. The other is willing to take us to very dark places on the alleged basis of attempting to push back on those things.

Fair to say I don't support either contingent.

Agreed, but he makes the connection. He supposes that his market strategies were formed in those early years: See the danger coming and protect yourself, no matter the cost

Sure, but how much of that is the guy he has become (heartless, IMO) trying to rationalize and reconcile his actions as a teen?

Seems more likely to be the case than him being some evil 14 year old, in my opinion.
