Which ones aren't?
Easy ones:
Right to Petition
Most of the Sixth Amendment
Etc.
These philosophers who really dug into natural rights focus around four areas: life, liberty, property, and to remove and replace tyrannical government
Some of are rights may not be natural but evolve from a natural right. The right to bear arms may not technically be a natural right but it is an obvious extension of the natural right of preservstion of life and removal of tyrannical government

That may be true, but our founding fathers were just as full of shite. They wrote and signed the document stating all men are created equal and endowed with liberty from God. Many of those same men owned slaves, who were men. How do you rectify that hypocrisy? How can someone believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness yet enslave 100's of thousands or millions of people?
The very words they wrote corrected their flaws. To me, that shows just how great that document is.

I'm as much a Christian believer as you will find. I see nothing in God's word that says God has granted these so called inalienable rights as stated in DOI.
Well thats probably because the Declaration was not written by a Christian.

Well then let's let the fricking leftists write something else. That's the end game for all this bull shite.

US founders acknowledged our rights came from God Himself.

Well, hell. I just learned that natural rights are a myth.
It's ok. I just learned institutionalized racism is made up.
Learn new things every day on the poli board.

This is how Communists justify starving millions of people in the name of the common good.

Yeah, it's not something I really "dig into" either, I was just going to say one could argue that all of the enumerated ones stem from natural rights.

First, "all men are created equal" was a direct assault on hereditary government and noble classes not a statement on slavery. Jefferson, like many others, wanted to ensure Republicanism in the new nation (and evolving world) which would require a government that would not distinguish by class.
Second, in his original draft, Jefferson forcefully denouces slavery as an abomination wrought by George III. This was removed, however, against Jefferson's as a concession for unanimity.

I get the sense that you don't study much history.
The US Declaration of Independence is probably the single most important document every written in Western Civilization and is the foundation for nearly every modern government in the world.

It's sad seeing the ignorance that gets perpetuated on this and even sadder realizing it's only getting worse - much worse.

quote:of course it wasn't a statement on slavery. It ignored slavery all together.

quote:Then Jefferson should have had the integrity and decency not to concede on an issue so important. The bottom line is that our founding fathers were gigantic hypocrites at best, evil at worst. That doesn't mean I don't appreciated what they did in founding this country.
