You do understand how that relates to the 4th amendment don't you? If you don't avail yourself you are not being denied. If you are not being denied, your constitutional right is not being violated.
So in your mind no one has a right to carry cash? That seems odd.

You seem to be under the assumption that people are upset about this particular woman, probably a drug mule, losing her cash. You should expand your thinking, and by no small amount.

I'm not, just being a contrarian for the sake of argument.

In particular I was responding to Squid Hunt who is clearly upset about this specific case and how his argument is unfounded.

I also think that the asset forfeiture program is abused.

Freaking groundless cases are all over the place with a simple search. And if the information in the other thread is correct the median seizure amount is $3,000. They know it'll cost more than the cash to get it back.

You certainly are.

You were threatened in Seattle and cried about it to the bartender.

Bunch of pussies in Seattle and you lied down and took it.

You fricking pussy.

Oh frick right off. This guy was clearly a crazy murderous thug who got pissed at me and the rest of the bar for not buying him free drinks because it was MLK Day. Not the type of guy you want to fight unless you are an actual scrapper. I thought he had a knife under his sleeve so not a good idea for a small unarmed white guy to try to kick a crazy guy’s arse who is around 6’6 and a few months later probably killed people in Chaz.

But no, the bartender continued to let him in saying he does it all the time and if they kick him out that he goes to the press claiming the restaurant or bar was racist. This bartender is more scared of bad press than a customer getting killed in his bar. I wasn’t the pussy there, the bartender was.

Under what authority do the police have to confiscate cash from a non criminal?

Let’s not be daft here, she was trying to smuggle that money and broke longstanding laws intentionally.

Besides, $100K is not that much these days. I went to Cabo a couple of months ago and brought $10K cash for spending money and in case I need to bride my way out of jail.

I went to spring break in Belize for a week with $5,000 spending money. I agree that $100,000 nowadays isn't much.

Regardless, even without considering rulings adverse to your position, this is a nonissue because the government cant deprive her of due process if she chooses not to avail herself.

So what happened to the premis that one is innocent until PROVEN guilty? Assumed guilt is NOT proof.
Do you need to prove your innocence if you are charged with failing to stop for a stop sign or does the arresting authority have to prove your guilt? They can trump up all kinds of false charges but they need to be able to make them stick.

And that example falls into that 99.99% category.

Look up the stats, there are 40,000+ asset forfeitures a year, take a look at who they are involved with, how many appeal and how many are overturned. Unless you are a hoodrat doing hoodrat shite, you have nothing to worry about. The assets seized are a big part of dept budgets revenue vs our taxes.

The outlier cases are similar to BLM claiming "cops be killing all our innocent young men", it simply doesn't happen very often.
