melt bitch. The DOE is a complete joke and disaster. The fact that you support the efforts of the DOE in watering down education and lowering the criteria on requirements just so that we can dumb it down enough for minorities to pass....says it all. You are too stupid to understand what this is doing with our brightest. We shouldn't be lowering standards, but raising up the substandard students. We have it backwards. Take your feelings somewhere else. There is also going to be massive fraud in the DOE as well.

My daughter with dyslexia gets no help from the state, her IEP thanks to Federal laws gets us to do an end around stupid Tennessee bullshite.
Your daughter is struggling learning to read in large part because the Federal government pitched a theory of teaching literacy that doesn’t work, hasn’t worked and never will work. They sacrificed your daughter’s literacy on the altar of ideology and didn’t give a shite. Your daughter’s IEP isn’t going to teach her to learn to read. She’s going to need to be taught with the science of reading. Like most kids.

either way that doesn't justify eliminating the DoE
keep in mind our rank on that includes private schools

This is stupid. My daughter goes to one of the best public schools in the state and I’m in there a lot volunteering. They don’t teach stupid ideology and they run a very good program. My daughter has a disability when it comes to reading, she needs extra help and extra study which she gets through the IEP and additional tutoring we pay for after class. Most of the kids do not need this. I’m not going to let asinine state laws get in the way.

Doesn’t seem like it’s working.

Your words ring true. Teacher unions and school boards are a pox on education.

Since she was identified, put on an IEP, and started tutoring, she is doing exceedingly well. She gets extra time, outside of classroom additional support, read aloud if she needs it, and also has a advocate that visits the classroom to make sure the teachers are following the IEP and if she needs additional support. The advocate also worked with us to find dyslexia specific after school tutoring.
It's working damn well. She excels at math and sciences, but is hindered by the reading, but even that has seen insane growth to where she may not need it by the time she hits middle grades. She also gets additional support during state testing. Tennessee's answer would probably be just hold her back because state testing says so instead of targeting a plan to her disability.

I’ve met a lot of kids that use federal programs to get IEPs or 504s.
This is an issue.
It has been the downfall of public education imho.
It is a MAJOR net negative (despite a feel good story here or there).
