Apparently there are chrome extensions that show downvote totals

Yes, but they won't work for long. Youtube will be deleting the API that provides access to that number. Only the creator of the video can see it.

The bad news is that Google plans on shutting down the API on Dec. 13.

Here's the blog where YT 'discusses it' (I mean, wimps out):

We want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves. This is just one of many steps we are taking to continue to protect creators from harassment.

And earlier this year, we experimented with the dislike button to see whether or not changes could help better protect our creators from harassment, and reduce dislike attacks — where people work to drive up the number of dislikes on a creator’s videos.

IOW, everyone gets a participation trophy, no one can have their feelings hurt (even if their video is meant to hurt others), and no one can be better than anyone else. I hate that my grand-kids are going to grow up in this world. I hope I have time to make them tough.

And then I realized I really, really do count on that DISLIKE count - just like this guy says, if I'm looking for technical or DIY info for example, a high DISLIKE tells me to not waste my time on that video.

This sucks. There must be a petition or something.
