Probably because of how capitalism works. This is basic econ stuff. Pollution is a negative externality. That means that it is a negative consequence of economic activity that is not factored into the price. In this case, government regulation that factors this into the price is actually how the free market works to correct the issue.

Government regulations are an extension of the free market. That's how we get around the inherent problem of human beings not acting rationally.

Pollution Controls are actually an extremely libertarian idea. Why?

Because your right to do whatever the frick you want STOPS when it affects other people. It's about protecting the most freedom. It's about realizing that "freedom" doesn't mean what you want to do, it's what EVERYONE can do.

Lets be real now.

The only way to TRULY fight climate change and pollution is to have a worldwide governing entity.

Sure, the US can pass all the cap and trade and other climate change fighting laws it wants to. But what about India or China? What if they don't want to play along? Who is going to make them comply?

Now you see why so many of us see this all as a stepping stone to a new world order.

Maybe but not man made.

Too many emails between scientists showing collusion, too many tweaked computer models. Too much depending on computer models, not enough predictions coming true including the first climate change that I was taught in school back in the '60s. That would be global cooling.

The technology changes since the '60s you may question. Just wait a few more years and see how today's technology will change.

The MSM pretty much owned by the libtards ignores a lot of information indicating the whole thing is a hoax. Here is a good one from '08.

If it is true, then why do the "prophets of AGW" invariably travel around the world on Private Jets to deliver their words to us uninformed stupid masses?

Every time I hear one of you man made global warmists spout off I keep coming back to this anectdotal story.

One of these is owned by a AGW denier and the other is owned by a guy who won Nobel Peace Prize for being the Prophet of AGW.

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the Ex President of the United States, George W. Bush.

The way to address these problems is not alarmism, exaggeration and psuedoscience, however. There are very little "sure things" in science.

Just be truthful and honest. People will only give up their individual sovereignty after they know they are being straight up with and after you address the checks and balances and protections involved in giving up said freedoms. This carte blanche overtaking of economies that globalists are pushing for simply doesn't fly with common people, as we've seen with Brexit and Trump.

Man is clearly impacting the environment.

The scientists say a make or break is not far off. We have to heed that.

Remember: Global Warming causes EXTREMES of weather - both hot and cold -- Like we are having right now?

I know a guy that would send me pictures of blizzards in Minnesota or wherever -- like that proved there WAS NO global warming -- when what it proved was that there WAS global warming.

if you bother to actually know science you'd know that all of the symptoms of global warming far, far predate fossil fuel use.

You do realize that before you lay a pipline underwater in the Gulf of Mexico, the first step is an archaeological search for human activity?

Year somehow those "ignorant" men and women somehow managed to survive...

You can fight worldwide climate change without a single governing body.

You just use economic sanctions or the threat of military force, kinda how we resolve all our disagreements right now.

As for the ice age comments.. You really don't understand time scales or just how things will be.

They talk about a 1m sea level rise by the end of the century with current global warming being limited. What you don't understand is that with 2 degrees, the current Paris goal, you get about 80 meters of sea level rise over the next 2 millenium. The hope is that there aren't any rapid feedback mechanisms to create faster sea level rise. The hope is also that the 2 degrees is limited to that amount and not higher. I think we're currently on track for a rise of in excess of 4 degrees.

Now, what that means is average heat. This includes the land and the oceans. The oceans respond much more slowly to temperature change so what this means is that there will be larger fluctuations in temperature. Weather patterns shift and some areas might actually be colder (like the UK and Western Europe) Some will be much hotter (like the poles).

Heat is basically energy in a system so weather events will be larger. Not necessarily more frequent, things like hurricanes may occur less often in areas because of shifts in the prevailing winds, but they will be larger.

It exists. It's happening. All that really matters is what you decide to do about it.

I guess I don't "believe" in global warming because my real answer is I don't know.

Can we get a definition of "global warming"?

Alright, fine.

But there is simply no denying that seven billion people are exacerbating the problem.

A bloody war with China because they wont comply when we say stop polluting

Sign me up for that. I'd love to lay down by life for that one.

Of itself, but maybe not. But extremes of weather are symptoms - evidence- of global warming.

When idiots - probably like you - say the very cold weather means there is no global warming, that fallacy needs to be pointed out.

"Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth's climate."

climate change is real! man has little to no influence in the climate. one burp from a volcano has more effect than man's total historical influence. warming has been in effect since the ice age.
