Chemical weapons are actually very difficult to employ in combat. You have to worry about wind, weather conditions, and time of day. And even with those considerations, they end being unreliably lethal.
You also have to employ cumbersome equipment to protect your own troops, equipment that will slow you down, and make you less combat effective.
Pound for pound, conventional munitions are much easier to employ, and far more reliable.
That, more than any other factor, explains why we don’t use them. It’s not the morality, it’s the practicality.
That’s another reason this doesn’t pass the smell test.

The chemical signature from that attack didn’t match our samples from the Syrian stockpiles.
The alleged unit responsible wasn’t in range of the site.
We have audio of confused Syrians asking who authorized an attack. And we have the audio of the local commanders saying they didn’t do it.
On the other hand, we have audio of Turkish commanders bragging about their role in orchestrating the attack.

Your argument is in no way logical.
You show photos of combat damage in a city, and you argue that this supports the allegation that the SAA used chemical weapons.
How?
Could you not also produce a similar photo of damage we inflicted in Raca? Would that also mean that we are likely to use chemical weapons?
My point is that it's the same story as Aleppo in which it was confirmed by multiple organizations that the SAA DID use CW. It's the same shite, different day. They barrel bomb and mix it with chlorine bombs. It's no surprise that they're doing it again instead of clearing out a surrounded pocket of rebels and risking more bloody urban conflict.
quote:
It's in their worst interest to use chemical weapons. There's literally no reason at all for them to do so. The negatives faaar outweigh the positives.
Yet they've been doing it the entire war with little to no repercussions outside of Trump's nominal strike. Obama did nothing when it was proven that they used CW and it set the standard for US response. Assad isn't dumb. He knows nothing will come out of this.
quote:
If Assad is dropping obvious canisters containing chemical weapons he's the dumbest mother fricker in the world.
They've been doing it throughout the whole war. Nothing has happened to him outside of the airbase strike.

Yet they're doing it, have done it before, and will continue to do it. It's obviously not that hard for them.

I've been following this conflict since 2011. All I do in my spare time is study history. Believe me, I know.

Confirmed by multiple organizations that want us involved.

That's not universally true. And for those organizations that do/did, what happened? We still haven't done anything against Assad besides striking an airfield with tomahawks.
Assad knows the US won't do anything.
Russia knows the US won't do anything.
The US knows they won't do anything.

The White Helmets are not a credible source. Nor would it make sense to use chlorine here.
You’re better off dropping a bomb, or using artillery.

When was the last time you saw a photo of a Syrian solder in MOP gear?

If this is common, and the SAA is responsible, then surely you can produce evidence? Perhaps an intercepted order?

I think it's a false flag, but I don't even care if it's real.
Get the frick out of there.

Not using the White Helmets. And it may not make sense to you, but it did to them to avoid having to take a city block by going room to room.

And they're doing that. It doesn't always have the same effectiveness, especially psychologically, that CW has.

I haven't, but I've seen others in protective gear, especially after the Sarin attacks last year.

They have. They've been sourcing and tracking the chemical attacks. Just as there were talks from the Russian general about a false flag attack, there was chatter from the US about about a potential "ramp up" of chemical activity.

I am sure the canisters had Chlorine written in English on the side for western consumption.

So far there have been canisters of lab-grade chlorine (99.9%) found originating from both Germany and Jordan IIRC. They're very old to the point of the tape turning brown.

Oh wow. All you do is study history, but you find it so hard to believe that the U.S. would not commit covert, orchestrated mayhem to justify military action. Only Russia does stuff like that. You seem like an excellent student.

Some of you paranoid delusional buffoons are both pathetic and funny. Just dropped by to get a good laugh as I figured this thread would deliver on a lazy, cool Sunday. Carry on being you!!!

Our government makes the Russians look like children when it comes to war propaganda. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and drone bombings in Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan, yet we're there to establish peace and human rights? Give me a break.

You're generalizing. I never said any of that. But keep projecting.

Because it's still real to me dammit

No one outside of the US believes any of that shite.

Right on que, Neocon, Al Qaeda and ISIS meeting war monger John McCain gives his 2 cents :
quote:
Washington (CNN)Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that President Donald Trump's comments that the US military would leave Syria "very soon" had emboldened Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, resulting in the reported chemical weapons attack Saturday that killed dozens of the country's civilians.

Thomas Wictor is an interesting take. He’s saying Assad & Iran did it so that they can say Trump is a one trick pony.
