He bought twitter for 2 reasons:
1) To combat as he calls it the "Woke mind virus"
and the most important to him
2) Ever since his days of creating Zip2, which eventually merged and became what Paypal is, he wanted a central location like WeChat is in China. He thinks that moves society ahead and Twitter already had the infrastructure to move in that direction.
He attempted to kill 2 birds with one stone and yes, he overpayed by Billions.

He actually stated cutting them would help Tesla. Because the subsidies are the only way other brands can viably make EV’s, where he can make them better and more efficient without.
He is for free market. He does not want EVs forced he captures the market that wants them.

Elon is obviously a brilliant mind, but has been very naive at times. He voted for Biden because he thought Trump's rhetoric was divisive and thought we needed a more uniting figure. Then he realized Biden and the Democrats as they are now are as divisive as it gets (to go along with the bad policy).
Biden was also dismissive of Musk even though he claimed he wanted to get rid of gas cars. Very odd.
Musk saw the light and is on the Trump train. And he really doesn't give a shite about how much money he has at any one point or how much he loses, so that makes him interesting. He lives in a 50 thousand dollar house. He lives for ideas and often talks about the survival of humanity. He actually cares about the future (and doesn't fake caring about it like most of Hollywood or like most people in political parties on both sides). He's a unique figure.
