Yes I was. It's pretty normal to slip out and go to the gym mid day. Or if I needed to go shop for something real quick I would, this was more limited by lack of refrigeration.

Majority of employers do not pay for employees to go to the gym or shopping No wonder you support WFH, you are one of the fraudsters and lowlifes.

Respectfully disagree

If you are a salaried employee and do your job it can be done at home or in office.

Also, I think he is referring to government jobs and I 100% agree with that

I do a fair amount of work from him but also in the office virtually every day. My productivity is my employer problem based on pay

Elon has zero say in that

They pay them to do their job. If they are, going to the gym midday is literally irrelevant.

You're only describing issues with an hourly model. Yes, if you get paid for an hour of work and you're not "working", you're doing something wrong.

If I was hourly it would probably be a problem. We don't let our low level help desk guys as an example go out and do whatever. They're hourly and need supervision of those hours to ensure we get the hour we're paying for.

No one is paying me hourly, I get paid based on my responsibilities being taken care of. As a trade off for the freedom during the day I also sometimes have to work longer days that don't pay me extra(well outside of bonus structure but that's wholely different).

It's clear you don't have much experience outside a hospital to know what the rest of the working world is like....

The only places that had these relaxed working environments were Apple, Google, Twitter, etc. You saw what Elon did with Twitter? He is about to do the same for the rest of America

And sometimes you have to answer emails/calls outside of work hours, etc.

My WFH trade off is that I don't turn off my laptop end of day and I'm available to call almost anytime if anyone needs my assistance. Plus I'm in an oncall rotation and might be up a time or 2 during the night.

If I go in you can forget me being available after hours. I'm not going home and turning it back on.

Same here. I'm more efficient as a WFH employee because I'm willing to bring my laptop with me on vacation and answer an email any time of the day, including the weekend. 99.9% of my job can be completed so long as I have my laptop or phone and Internet access.

If I was in the office, you can forget about anything happening after hours.

I'm salaried fwiw.

The logic is just dumb. Morally wrong because some people can’t work from home? Should we set every office on fire because firefighters are at risk?

If you works on a computer and have a job with a track able metric to determine if you’re doing it or not, why do you need to work in an office?

Donald Trump does his work on the golf course.

the DOGE guy and tech innovator thinks it’s better to own an office and make people show up than have the flexibility to hire anyone anywhere.

Pretty much. If systems go down at night I'm getting woken up and so is my team. But if everyone leaves at 2pm Friday cause we're all caught up it doesn't matter one bit.

well sure. It's very common for higher level employees especially to come and go as they please.

You're out of your mind if you think Elon musk is sitting at a desk all day long "working". He absolutely goes and does whatever he feels like he needs to do when he needs to do it.

Yeah I made this career decision a long time ago. Going to the office everyday sucks and is a waste of money.

What do you imagine "on the clock" even means for a salaried professional?
