The U.S. ag sector is an export economy. Take away foreign markets and there is nowhere to run to
how does one take away foreign markets by putting tariffs on China, one buyer? These are commodities. If China buys their soybeans from somewhere else, then the people who used to get those particular soybeans China is now buying will have to buy our soybeans, or someone will have to buy our soybeans to sell to China to meet the demand. It's not like the extra soybeans can just magically appear out of this air.

Word coming down now is that the African Swine Flu is much much worse than they are letting on. If upwards of 1/2 of China's hogs are destroyed they not be buying dozens of millions of metric tons of soybeans.

They will be buying(already started)millions of pounds of pork. Expansion in pork industry = more soybeans needed

Who cares? Name me a single other economic sector that is still largely comprised of family owned/operated units and yet so subject to the whims of government policy? I’ll wait.

There have been many, many home health agencies that were family owned business destroyed by government cuts and regulations. As a matter of fact, the only thing more regulated than nuclear power is home health care.
Also, private therapy practices like I am in are still getting the same reimbursement essentially I was getting 15 years ago. Yet all the costs of doing business have gone up over 50%. So yeah, I feel the crunch.

Where are they going to get them? They already own the bulk of the world's pork supply? I mean yes they will get replaced that won't happen quickly.

It’s quite simple, really. As Vecchio mentioned we want to sell to the HIGHEST bidder. Not just any bidder.

Look at it this way: say China and Zambia are bidding for soybeans from the U.S. and Brazil. China can bid up to $10 a bushel while Zambia can only afford $8. Naturally China wins and fills their bids (in this case from Brazil), thus leaving only Zambia to buy U.S. soybeans. Now the net amount of soybeans bought is still the same, but the value we’re able to capture has decreased due to a decrease in buyer “quality”.

THAT’S how closing “only one buyer” off can be devastating. China is the biggest, baddest importer in the world for these goods so yeah, not having them is a big deal.
