AI says grain loss for modern combines is 1-3%. Over the millions of ac of grain grown that’s not a lot left on the ground.
yea if everything is perfect
but at the nationwide yield of 186 on corn this year at 2% loss thats 223#/ corn per acre on that ground

Dude, it’s not like Austin is going to have dramatically different food than the rest of the country. Their BBQ isn’t that different than what you’ll find in most of the south (
I mean if I'm going on a trip for business or pleasure I'm at least eating a couple meals at what are considered the better restaurants in that locale

I guess there is only 1 variety of hybrid rice in the Southeast.
There is only one company that sells hybrid rice in the US
They sell different varieties but they are all produced the same way

You have to have a male/ female sterile line so it can’t self pollinate

Can LSU drum up the support to guarantee they will spend enough on Basketball to get him back?

Central LA (Monterey Deer Park?)
They don't grow hybrid seed rice here anymore and haven't in a few years
and what you are talking about is very very minimal acres and has no affect on ducks

So down 40k to cane and 110k acres to fallow land or development?
a bunch of that fallow land just reverted back to marsh or is still flooded and able to be hunted
quote:
Does any of this refute the sentiment of my statement?
Actually it does - when you claim cane taking over for rice is a main reason we don't have ducks.
Claiming we lost hundreds of thousands of acres of rice - when in 2005 we grew only 50k less acres than we did 1996
Just admit you were spouting off about things you have no clue about
The ducks don't even know the habitat is lost because they don't make it this far anymore

hundreds of thousands of acres that were once rice.
this isn't true
Maybe 40k tops replaced by cane
From its peak in 1980 rice acreage is down 150k to what it was this year
A lot more replaced by development, saltwater intrusion, and a lot of land that used to be rice in western vermillion, Cameron, lower Calcasieu is just grown up in grass/trees or used as pasture
eastern Vermillion is where you see the acreage replaced by cane
Parishes like Acadia, Jeff Davis, and Evangeline don't grow much less rice than they did 30 years ago

Rice used to help with habitat but the methods have changed to incorporate almost zero grain loss at harvest.
This isn't true. yea the combines are more efficient but there is plenty grain left out there after harvest
quote:
Then the ponds are too deep because they are also crawfish farming.
Again not true - go ride up to whiteville/bunkie and see all the ducks(not mallards) in that deep water they are about to start crawfishing
Also there is plenty of rice stubble in NELA and south Vermillion/South Jeff Davis/Cameron parish that isn't crawfished and most of it isn't full of ducks

The habitat down here is our biggest problem.
No it isn't. and neither is flooded corn
Its poor breeding grounds/ lots of the prairie pot hole region has been drained to farm it, they've had numerous droughts, etc

he would focus on sugar cane farming and current methods of rice farming in LA
I would love to hear what you want the Senator to do regarding this or what you think the problem is

I thought it was February when y’all’s ducks got there anyway?
Louisiana has way more ducks than the Ms delta. I want my senator to write a strongly worded letter stating the artificially flooded acres in Louisiana is stoping ducks from coming back up because y’all didn’t have enough water.
That actually happened a few years ago when y’all were in extreme drought. A lot birds had to come back up because the marsh was shite (I think yall even had an hurricane that destroyed what was good) and y'all didn’t have enough water caught because the drought. P.S. I am just playing devil’s advocate about this. I have never hunted Louisiana so I wouldn’t know how bad it actually is.
I'm not blaming flooded corn or any of that other stuff exept maybe the game farm dna problem. I think the ducks don't exist
LA had more ducks but Ark had more dabblers

maybe 5% of the acres are being run during duck season
I can drive around 10s of thousand of acres in south LA thats either plowed and flooded or that is rice stubble that has caught rainwater and see hardly any ducks - even when there are big groups of geese around
yall can blame La habitat all you want - but the facts are the ducks aren't making it here to even know if the habitat is good or not
