The job description is basically a brochure for a gay retreat.

One of the greatest things ever was when Ted Haggard "cured" his gayness by going off into a secluded cabin in the woods with three other preachers.

Thank God I'm a Protestant who doesn't feel compelled to defend televangelists.

Well, Frontline is part of government TV so what do you expect? Religion is a big competitor to the state for the minds of people so of course they will go after them.

They don't have the guts to go after Muslims.

Besides the fact that our government seems to invade Muslim countries for sport.

Hit job on one of the loudest voices against the current administration.

What didn't you know already?
There's some sick priests?
There are gay priests?
There's corruption in the institution?

The Church is against the HHS mandate against abortion and against gay marriage. It runs the largest number of charity hospitals, is the largest global charity organization in the world... so it must be silenced.

Lowly and false hit piece with with political motivations. That's all it is. The producers of this drivel have no idea what goes on in the Vatican.

I've posted this reply to a similar statement about celibacy being weird, and I'll do it again.

My sister is a nun, and she's not weird, nor did she lack for boyfriends in High School.

Not everybody is the same as you, and because some people decide to devote their lives to serving others, subsuming themselves to a higher calling, forsaking sex, it doesn't make them weird.

I know many good priests and nuns very well who would never harm a child, and who have in fact been very good influences in a child's life.

Just because someone doesn't think like you, or has their brains in their genitals doesn't make them weird.

Maybe it's just, how to religious refer to gay people, "unnatural."

and don't forget the fact that churches pay no taxes lol

None of what you said makes any sense at all. This is not a government conspiracy to make the church SEEM like sick pedophiles. They ARE sick pedophiles hampering intellectual progress all over the world, and they need to be taken down.

A typically awesome piece by one of the most important shows on TV.

I love the butthurt from the people who have the low character to attack something they probably didn't watch and which slaughters their sacred cow.

Ratzinger was a horrible priest and utterly inept as Pope Benedict. Francis is the best thing to happen to the Catholics in a very long time.

They don't know shite about spin. Otherwise they would have blamed it on rogue agents who acted on their own. The Pope only learned about it when he read it in the newspaper. There was no cover up. The supervisors were shocked and disappointed by the inappropriate behavior of the rogue agents. And despite the documents and discussions of these matters by Church hierarchy there is no need for outside investigations by any oversight body.

The Catholic Church and its supporters have much to learn about spin.

Okay, after watching this episode of Frontline this is what I have summarized:

1.) The main pedophile that was the focus of the documentary is likely burning in hell.
2.) The bishops that attempted to cover up these sexual predator acts...well, there is probably a special place for these people in their afterlife too.
3.) The rapist in Milwaukee was held accountable and died in prison...good for the justice system.
4.) Frontline focused on homosexual acts of some priest that work in the Vatican. They did not report on heterosexual acts by priest and I'm sure there are more acts of heterosexuality than homosexuality. The message that Frontline sent was that homosexuality is bad which is counter to the current MSM tone.
5.) The psychologist interviewed made some interesting points, a.) pre-adolescent pedophilia actions were done by both homos and heteros, and b.) adolescent pedophilia was carried out by homos only.
6.) Frontline seem to only take one side, the plaintiff's side (if you will).

Conclusion...there are bad actors in the Church and the Church tried to handle it in their own way when they should have gone to secular authorities. I got the impression that pope BXVI came down very hard on these predators and the people in the Church that covered for them. However, he receive a lot of push back which caused a lot of internal strife in the Vatican. Apparently it was enough push back to force him to become the first pope in 600 years to resign.

I sure hope that these scumbags have been culled from the Church. But I do not hold out much hope because the Church is a human institution filled with sinners. With that said I believe that the number of criminals per captia within the Church is far lower than the numbers of criminals per capita in secular society. (I'd like to see a study on this to either support or discredit my assumption).

The one positive that was mentioned by Frontline is that men entering the priesthood in the U.S. has become a model that Rome is now advocating. That is, potential priest in the seminary now have to go though a secular discernment period prior to confecting their vows to ensure that the priesthood is the commitment they want to make.

The Catholic Church has never referred to gay people as "unnatural".

Does it believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman? That a heterosexual union is what God intends? Yes.

But they would never in Church doctrine assert that someone is "unnatural".

Remember it was the Catholic Church that was one of the first to administer to those dying of AIDS. We have been taught to love all, and to live the Gospel in ministering to those in need.

I'm not a theologian, so I'm not equipped to discuss Church Doctrine, line for line.

I can only assert what I've witnessed and been taught through 12 years of Catholic education, and many, many more, sitting in different Church pews in different Parishes.

The Church let millions of people down(and much worse than that, when it turned a blind eye to the sex abuse scandal). But the Church is not people. The Church is Christ.

And as the nice lady at Sam's always tells me, "Have a Blessed Day!"

This +.

I think many of these paedophiles entered the seminary at an early age, often from pressure from a family that wanted the honor of having a priest in the family. These guys went in at the age of 12 or so. Way, way too young to know what you want, in most cases.

I am glad to see the changes made, and how much more rigorous the screening and discernment process has become.
